Where do you think Gabriel Byrne and Chris Walken would have fit in?

Now that the saga is complete and those rumors have been put to bed, i've just been thinking back to what could have been. Both Byrne and Walken have confirmed they touched base with Lucas about roles in either Ep II or III. Personally I have a strong feeling that Christopher Walken was the first choice for Count Dooku and that he bowed out and Chris Lee had to take his place. I love Lee, don't get me wrong, but I think Walken would have been better. Byrne would have made a fine venerable Jedi for either II or III. Personally I feel a little empty on the Jedi level past Qui-Gon. I've always felt since the first time I saw AOTC that there needed to be one more strong Jedi presence and Gabriel Byrne could have provided that. Maybe he could have been one of the "Lost Twenty" that comes back to the order once he hears about the Count's falling to the Dark Side and the diminishing ability of the Jedi Order. I don't know. Can't do anything about it now, I just think Lucas should have stuck to his original ideas and created roles for these two. He dragged their names along in pre-pro long enough. I think they deserved something.

I love Walken but I'd laugh at him delivering Star Wars dialogue. He actually tried out for Han Solo back in the day, did you know that?

Yeah, forgot about that. That's another reason Lucas should have put him in the Prequels. Walken is great at camp dialouge too, you don't know whether he's patterning himself after it or it's patterning itself after him. Chris Lee was campy with the dialogue in AOTC.

I really love those two lads. Great actors, both of them. (I have a liking for Irish films such as "The Last of the High Kings". And I just love the dancing part that Chris had in a certain music clip.) But which roles would you have given them? A Sith Lord? A Seperatist leader ? They certainly have a mean edge about them at times, but are also great when it comes to play a family father.

Christopher Walken could have worked as a high ranking Imperial Officer. Man, he wouldn't mess around with the Death Star. I could just see him standing right next to Governor Tarkin. But Han Solo, he is not.

I think Gabriel Byrne was up for Bail Organa.

Meditate on this I did and I also would say Byrne would have been just fine for the Viceroy. And in Walken s case... I would also agree that he should have been casted for an Imperial officer. He has stlye and very intense eyes.
But now it is done, isn t it? Perhaps they might be casted for any possible up-coming TV series.
