Which planets does the deathstar blow up first?!!!

After watching 1 n 2 I've been thinking 3 will be based over a much longer period of time. THe deathstar may be made and it'll do some this

Blow the planet with those winged things that seemed to have alot to do with the construction

Blow up the rainy planet(sorry peps i'm well into SW but I havent watched 1 & 2 sober so specific details have been flushed!!)

Shoot the jedi temple down..

The only planet the first Death Star destroyed was Alderaan. Besides, the first Death Star was finished at the time of Episode 4.

 

Of course that was in the OT, which seems to happen in another galaxy...

This reminds me of a fanfic parody I once read in which Leia convinced Tarkin to blow up Coruscant because that was where the Rebels were.

I don't see why Palpy would need to rid himself of the Geonosians after getting the blueprints for the Death Star. For all we know, they're still faithfully working for him at the time of the OT.

Seriously, I think we have enough proof to say that Alderaan was the first planet blow up by the Death Star.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that, besides Alderaan, the first Death Star destroyed the planet over which it was constructed as well, Despayre, some sort of penal colony, in order to keep the Death Star a secret.

 

Uh oh...you guys mentioned the EU...just wait until the Purist Commitee arrives, then you'll be in trouble.

I agree with you, Despayre should be the first planet that the Death Star destroys. Don't count on it though, Lucas is very picky about which parts of the EU he chooses to acknowledge in the movies.

 

You wont even see the death star, it DOESNT take 18 years to build it......

I've been wondering how long it would take to build a Death Star, actually. The fact that there's a new one in RotJ which has incorporated improvements on the vulnerabilities that got the first one destroyed suggests that all design and planning on the DS2 took place after Yavin, meaning it had been under construction for four years tops. However, it's also possible that the weaknesses in the first Death Star were noticed while it was still under construction and improvements were made to the second, which was being worked on simultaneously. If it only takes 4 years to build a Death Star, it seems awfully strange that Palpy waited so long to start on one, doesn't it?

 

Am I the only one who's content to believe this thread is a joke?

I think the possibility exists that Naboo will get zapped by the PRECURSOR to the Death Star weapon. We saw the small version in AOTC....maybe it will grow up in ep.III

Anyway, what do you think about how long it takes to build a Death Star?

I'm hoping it takes about 20 years.

(Again, if you believe the EU, there were more Death Stars under construction at the same time. After all, why have one when you can have two, or three, or four?)

 

Here's what I believe:
- Alderaan is the only planet DS1 detroys
- DS1 took 10 years max. for building
- the plans as seen in AOTC are mere sketches; it may easily have taken several years (up to another ten IMO) to be able to actually start construction.
- design and building of DS2 was much faster, as the plans "just" had to be scaled up and some flaws (e.g. reactor vent, missing shield) corrected.
- design/construction of DS2 may have started shortly after the first was destroyed, it just took the rebels several years to discover it.

Based on my above assumtions (sp?), I don't think we'll see a DS as such in EP3.
Maybe a prototype of the gun, merely strong enough to destroy a city (or the Jedi Temple?).
Maybe we'll just see a young Tarkin recieve the DS plans and is just told to "See to it."

I think the appropriate term for the appearance of the Death Star in AOTC is foreshadowing. As in foreshadowingthe "ultimate weapon" of ANH which is capable of destroying an entire planet... something so unimaginably horrendous that it hasn't happened yet (or else somebody would have said something about "Oh, no, not another [insert destroyed planet here]).

 

Dude, as far as I am concerned the Death Star is under construction or most likely in "Development Hell" in Episode III.

Alderaan is the first and only planet destroyed by the Death Star. Just because I sometimes read the EU doesn't mean I accept it.

 

I agree with you, Despayre should be the first planet that the Death Star destroys.

I'm not easily bothered by EU, but in this case the movie overrules it, thus it is invalid.
