For me, TPM wins hands down.
    Mainly because it was fresh.
When I watched ROTS comentary, a lot of it was same old same old, this is how we do this and that.
I think there was a bit of magic to the documentaries in TPM, and I think I was looking forward to the next 2 movies and trying to get any hints on storyline etc.
    What about everyone else?

TPM...everything was new back then, even the menus were mind blowing & it was the first time we'd had a Directors commentary on a SW film."The Beginning" documentary on the TPM disc2 is the best SW doc ever IMHO..no cheesy voice over, no talking heads, just unadulterated, in the eye of the storm SW bliss.
RotS DVD features are a little weak in comparison with EP1&2..but it's the better movie so who cares!

    The Phantom Menace

With the Phantom Menace it was like Lucas being in the same situation he was with A New Hope all over again. It was like "We've got to do this, but first we have to figure out how to pull it off." It is this aspect that gives all the special features on TPM this sense of urgency, as if you might get to the end of the documentary and find out they couldn't pull it off (althoug they of course did.) There is something very human about it. This is missing from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith where there is great focus on the technical aspects of the film making process.

That said, I love the "Puppets to Pixels" & "Films are not released..they escape" docs on the AOTC DVD...eppecially the bit where GL does his geonosian impression [face_laugh]

The widowmaker shot is classic, but overall, TPM's bonus features are much richer and more versatile than the others. The Beginning, the first web docs, five featurettes that aren't repetitive, an expansive doc on deleted scenes(which wasn't needed three times, but still)....
AOTC is a quite close second, but the bonus features for ROTS were to me very disappointing. Where's the sense of adventure, of exploring the fantastic realm of making Star Wars movies? Granted, those involved have become more and more accustomed to that world, but it would've been great to at least have one long documentary that captured the spirit of what it was like to make the movie!

Now I'm off topic, so I'll end my post by saying it again: TPM's bonus features are the best.

    TPM Disc 2 - it's the best

TPM was better. The stuff in AOTC and ROTS was stuff that we already knew.

"The Beginning" doc was the best. I just finished the ROTS extras and they were the biggest let down. I prefer ROTS over AOTC but look how many more featurettes and coverage that AOTC has. So I think AOTC has the best extra features when it comes to coverage, but quality goes to TPM. ROTS had so much amazing stuff to talk about but instead it turned into two little looks at stunts, then at ANAKIN BEING THE CHOSEN ONE! That would have been such a great doc instead, just talking about stuff that's always in mags and tv shows.

I know this isn't the right forum to do it, but for any future Star Wars DVD set, I would love if whoever conducts the interviews gets all the stars of the movies together (not all in one room), but interviews as many of the stars as possible then has little docs on each character, experience during filming, and what they think of the saga. It's just that ROTS docs had little if not any, Natalie, Ian, Jimmy, Frank, or Sam. It was all Ewan, Hayden, and George. Rightfully so, but just would want to see all the stars interviewed around the same time, rather than one during post production, then during the premiere, then a week before the DVD.

Yeah, it's tough to push away the feeling of loving TPM DVD because it was the first of its kind, but "The Beginning" doc is fantastic.

"The Beginning" was amazing, IMO. Hands down my favorite documentary of all the DVD's. It's something I can watch again and again.

I do not know about features becuase they are pretty much all the same, but TPM had the best Feature Documnetary. The Beginning was great. AOTC documentary From Puppets to Pixels was the same type of documentary and I really enjoyed that. I was kind of disappointed with the ROTS documenatry. I liked TPM and AOTC because there was not interviews. Just raw footage of the behind the scenes. ROTS it seemed like it was rushed and Mcallum trying to explain everything just did not do it for me. The interviews takes away from the footage. That is what I like to see. I have not seen any other DVD documentary like The Beginning.

i like rots right now because it seemed more like a star wars film and had the more interesting story, although i thought the commentary was pretty flat and 'within a minute' got pretty tiring. in the end its the movie that dictates what special features i like the most

TPM. I get the feeling that by ROTS they were starting to think about other projects. Lots of TLC went into TPM dvd.

The PT special features were all OK, but the extra disk that came with the OT DVD set is awesome!

Actually, the disk that came with the OT should've been much better than it was...I think DarthDuckie is right..Lucasfilm have got other plans & held a lot of stuff back for future releases (2007 Saga Edition?)

I also agree with the bonus features but then again I had already seen all the hyberspace documentaries. The two short documentaries were good but too short. And the long documetary doesn't interest me. I still haven't been able to watch it all. But the reason they didn't have the long and interesting documentary is because they are saving it for the ultimate 2007 release - I think that is a safe bet. But then again I didn't buy it for the special features - I bought it to be able to watch the greatest Star Wars film whenever I want to. The best part of the special features were probably the trailers and tv ads. The documenatires could have been better but I'm not complaining having all the saga in my collection.

My favorite feature on all the PT dvd's is the one where you can add any deleted scene you want into the movie! OH CRAP, why did I have to wake up, that was a nice dream!:_|

At first I was disappointed because I knew that each PT DVD would have its own special disk, but the entire OT DVD set only had 1 DVD to cover all the extras. But, that documentary which covers Star Wars from ANH to ROTJ is perfect. It captures the mood of the early 80's, all the hype and excitement of TESB and ROTJ, how hard it was to make ANH, and how close we came to getting a "Hollywood" Star Wars instead of a "Lucasfilm" Star Wars.

Well, as someone who doesn't know the first thing about making a movie, I would say The Beginning. But that said, if I was wanting to actually make a movie, if I really wanted to know how to make a movie, Within A Minute would probably be the most informative.

BTW, I LOVE R2D2: Beneath The Dome! Cracks me up everytime I watch it! [face_laugh]

I don't have Episode I on DVD, so I'm going to have to say Attack of the Clones. Not only does it have more to offer, but the two longer documentaries (Puppets to Pixels and The Previz one) are really entertaining and fun to watch. I feel like the credits for Puppets should have been an easter egg it was so funny, what with Yoda and the enormous cloak and such.

ROTS,Lucas finished the DVD right this time. He included all the web documents,a whole featurette on the Chosen One and how they Film a minute of the movie [Come on,that was pretty cool] and all the other stuff he threw in randomly.

I liked the deleted scenes in AOTC,though. But ROTS still wins hands down.

I forgot to say that the deleted scenes were all brilliant - especially the rebellion scenes and Yoda on Dagobah. All those scenes would have been worthy to be put into the film - something that can't be said about TPM and AOTC. Only 1-2 scenes on those film's deleted scenes would have been worthy of the film.

I would agree with that. The best deleted scenes were from ROTS. I could see why they cut all the deleted scenes from TPM and AOTC, but I think the ones from ROTS might have actually benifited the film if they had been left in.
Although I have not watched them yet with the explination as to why they were cut.

This one isn't really that outstanding, but I love the deleted scene with Qui-Gon and Anakin where the little kid fights a young Greedo! How ironic is that! HAHAHA

Seriously though, I really like the scene where Qui-Gon slices down the probe droid. Hope that goes back in. Maybe the scene in AOTC where Dooku and Fett talk to Padme and Anakin. I like the whole thing Fett and Anakin are doing in that scene. One of the very few moments when I've cracked up, when Obi-Wan and Anakin exchange facial signals. And of course the Dagobah scene.
    Great scenes.
