I ask because me and my friend were debating and he really couldn't chose and I said that KOTOR II was just because for some reason I felt Kreia was harder to defeat than Malak though I felt in KOTOR your journey throughout the game was tougher. Anywho I wanted to know what you all felt.

The first one was tougher for me because it was the first RPG of any kind (videogame/tabletop/etc...) that I'd played. I had to learn all those RPG-specific concepts on the fly. It took me 3 or 4 playthroughs before I figured out what all the numbers meant and how to effectively build a balanced (or a least powerful) character. Because of this the early stages of KOTOR were very hard for me. I would miss most attacks and then leave myself open to a quick death by overusing feats. Eventually I figured it out, and in between KOTOR and KOTOR 2 I messed around with the Mech Warrior tabletop game (my sister's fiance was into it). By the time KOTOR 2 came out, I knew what I was doing.

KotoR is harder because Force Speed + DW lightsabers + flurry wasn't as overpowered as in KotoR2. IMO.

KOTOR was harder because the bosses in KOTOR II weren't as tough.

KOTOR was harder but only for the first time around. But, like all good RPG's, you have to do lots of running around doing side missions. I hated that one in the Taris underworld where you had to kill like the mutant people and get the cure. The bosses in KOTOR were harder just because instead of like 3 weak crappy Sith Lords there was the big finale with Malak who kept regenerizing himself.

KOTOR II was harder in the department that you had to play a good half the game without a lightsaber, everything was a test as to how you answer questions and you could have people turning on you without knowing. But overall gameplay, KOTOR was harder then KOTOR II.... and better, too.

It's been like two years since I played 'em. I just recently got my N64 back so I've been playing Rogue Squadron, but me and my friend wanted to play one of the KOTORS again and that's how we got into which was harder?

The last part of KotoR was a right bitch, so yeah KotoR was harder but KotoR II seemed more fun dispite having a lot of cut content.

I think KOTOR was a bit more difficult for such things as the energy tower puzzle and though the options were great there seemed to be a lot more freedom in KOTOR2 in all areas.

For me KOTOR I was way harder than KOTOR II. In KOTOR you could upgrade your weapons in much more different and varied ways to almost godlike levels, had Prestige classes, more Force powers, a higher level cap and could turn your party members into Jedi. All of this culminated in KOTOR II being a great but easy game. By the time I got off the first planet I could kill anyone with no problems. However KOTOR I was significantly more challenging and I died many a time.

They should have made that puzzle mandatory for completing the game, but IIRC all you get for it is Naga Sadow's Poison Blade or something. Which the player probably isn't going to use, given that they already have an upgradeable lightsaber.

I hated that friggin' puzzle in the Korriban academy! Same with the puzzle underwater Manaan. But at the same time, they had a fun challenge to it and thats what KOTOR II lacked. It's like Zelda, some of the puzzles in the temples are a ***** to do, but thats what adds to the game. Hard is good.

I know, "thats what she said".

The thing about KOTOR II is that the first Force User you fight is Darth Sion on Korriban. In KOTOR, on each planet there were some force users you had to fight. But in KOTOR II, you went through 3/5 of the game without fighting a single force user.

The swoop races in KOTOR were a challenge. The ones in KOTOR II were a piece of cake. Same goes for pazaak. KOTOR also didn't have as many upgrades as KOTOR II.

Did anyone else save up their upgrades in KOTOR until they were a Jedi, just to be more powerful and get more powers?

You mean character levels? I did once, but it actually made me a little bit weaker for most of the game. See, I always get to Dantooine at level 8 and then get the free level when I multiclass to Jedi, putting me at 9. The time I decided not to level-up from 2 (the mandatory level-up on the Endar Spire), I only ended up at level 8 because there was no need to give me the freebie. For the rest of the game I was always 1 level behind where I would usually be.

Perhaps, but you have an extra 6 Jedi levels, which are generally better than soldier/scout/scoundrel levels.

Although KOTOR was my first RPG ever, I found it easier than KOTOR2. I remember getting myself stuck on Nar Shadaa because I couldn't kill all the Trandoshans that infested the Ebon Hawk. Don't know what's wrong with me.

    Also Influence sucked ass.

I'm waiting for this thread to complete its devolution into a KotOR I > KotOR II thread.

IMO, KotOR II was a better game because I enjoyed everyone's story and the dialogue and philosophy involved.

As for more difficult, however...the Exile was like a Jedi God, so everyone but Kreia was pretty easy for him/her to beat.

KotOR I was a bit more difficult since Revan didn't seem quite so strong.

I would have to go with Kotor as being harder especially the end levels on the Star Forge, the level where you can get Revens/StarForge robes, the enemys seemed to never stop.

I also remember fighting the droids for ages until I realsed I could target the computers to shut them off/ destroy them.

Malak was a harder fight than Kreia for me, but some of the Jedi on Kotor2 were tough, the one on Dantooine if you went there first was one of the hardest fights in the game.

I remember lots of running behind plants, setting up mines, repeat, the first time I beat him

KOTOR was definitely the better game and was tougher. I have played it through now about 7 times completing on both light and darksides, and it is always a challenge. Taris (though I don't like having my lightsaber) is always difficult especially if you save you levels until you become a jedi (a level 7/8 jedi just out of training is great for the rest of the game). Even if you level up each time the side quests are far more difficult than KOTOR2.

The most difficult part of KOTOR2 is Dantooine if you play darkside and have to face Vrook. He is a real pain to beat if you go there straight after Telos. Pazaak is easier in KOTOR2, the swoop races are easier, the side quests are alright, and the bosses are much easier on 2 and the ending is absolute rubbish!

still waiting on 3 and hoping it'll be better than 2.

KOTOR was harder because (a)it was the first time I've played an RPG and (b)Malak was a ***** to beat.
