There's a poll on the net right now where people are voting for the worst music video ever made, and Vanilla Ice's ICE ICE BABY is winning by a landslide.
And I often hear people put him and that song down, and call him cheesey and blah, blah, blah.

You know what? That song sold EIGHTEEN MILLION COPIES. EIGHTEEN MILLION. That is a massive hit record, a success level very few artists ever reach.

Where are those people? Everyone is so "cool and sophisticated" and puts down the song and V.I., but SOMEONE made that a HUGE hit.

I guess it just wasn't the internet guardians of cool, or the jerks at VH-1 who put down everything. No, no, no...not them. It was OTHER people.

Or maybe it was a long time ago and it sucks by comparison to today's music.

...No wait, today's music sucks too. I dunno then.

Every time I hear the beginning of Under Pressure on the radio, a part of me hopes it will turn out to be Ice Ice Baby.

They have just had 90s months on a music channel here, and good ol' Vanilla has had some serious play. I have to say that Ice Ice Baby is not as hated by me as some other music :) Though any reference to 'Vanilla with a 9' cracks me up.

Cookin' MCs like a pound of bacon!

The government knew about the corruption of the public but they would never have gone along with it if they knew the truth. The truth? The truth.

Vanilla Ice strikes me as more of a novelty than anything else. Admittedly, I thought the song was cool the first month it was released. He was, no pun intended, the flavor of the month. Like many catchy songs that don't really have that lasting element, it got old. After a while, it became trendy to dislike Vanilla Ice. It's easy to dislike something when everyone else does, but it eventually came down to the idea that he really wasn't a very genuine rap icon. After a while, I think people realized that.

Great question though. I often think it's funny that I don't know many people who will admit to having owned a Debbie Gibson or M.C Hammer album. Who bought the latest from Brittney Spears, Ricky Martin, or N'Sync? A whole lot of people did, but I "supposedly" don't know many who have.

After 10 or more years have passed, I do think it's funny that I'd find novelty in songs that I didn't particularly like when they were first released. I think it's the whole turning back the clock idea of it.

So you must really like that song. Did you see him get his ass kicked by Willis from "Diff'rent Strokes"?

Honestly, (apart from the younger generation who were not old enough then), the people who buy Vanilla Ice albums buy Eminem albums. Eminem and Vanilla Ice have no respect within the hiphop community.

    WHAT????

Why because they're white boys rippin' off rap?

    I thought hiphop loved Eminem.

Vanilla Ice could have been vain enough to purchase his own albums. That way he could rise to No. 1 because that album had the highest sales. Thee only setback was that he squander millions on his own album just for people who whine about the top ten to oogle over him. I mean, nobody in their right mind would want that rubbish.

Don't blame me. I was buying Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, and Metallica records back then. Just about every girl I knew in Jr. High School had that album, though. But these were the same girls who had New Kids On The Block posters on their walls. I think that should just about put things into perspective.

Heh, I remember me, my friends, and the rest of the world listening to that song over and over and you weren't cool unless you had a copy. This was in high school.

Then about a year later, if you did own a copy, you were a geek. I don't miss being a teenager :)

If you frequent the hip-hop appreciation thread you know that Darth Boy is thoroughly against Eminem. Why? I have no clue. I honestly think it's cause he's white.

While I don't like eminem's last song and I don't buy any of his albums, eminem is original and good for rap. He is also lyrically sick.

I've heard he's still very wealthy because he invested all that income well.

But that doesn't explain why Vanilla Ice appears on THE SURREAL WORLD, quite possibly the worst show on TV.

I will admit that I bought this album also. I was in high school and hadn't heard enough music to know what I really liked. I think I might have even bought his next album.

    Wow..I really suck!
