Never thought of this until last night watching Episode II on spike tv. Did the seperatist party or Sidious? I ask because I'm under the impression that the seperatist doesn't know about Dooku. Dooku takes tha plans of the death star back to his master for safe keeping. Does Sidious/sith steal this plan or was it theirs all along?

ps...I'm new, my 3rd post so sorry if this was discuss already. Love reading everybodies observations.

Ultimately though, the Separatist Council learns of Dooku's identity and his master, Darth Sidious.

Lucas says in the commentary of AOTC that it was more or less the Geonosians that were responsible for planning out the death star. I do believe that it was all part of darth sidious's plan to build an "ultimate weapon" for the future.

Check out the commentary on the dvd for more info. (its in the part where dooku first takes off on his speeder bike for the hanger where his ship is);)

The OS Databank has only this one line on the Death Star's orignins:

"The technical schematics for the Death Star were developed by the cutting edge technologists of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars."

Wookieepedia offers a more detailed explanation (click link for sources):

"The Death Star was born in the mind of Raith Sienar, who had conceived of it as an Expeditionary Battle Planetoid. He shared his idea with his friend Captain Wilhuff Tarkin, who presented it to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Palpatine, as Sith Lord Darth Sidious, gave the designs to his apprentice, Separatist leader Count Dooku. Dooku then presented the designs to Geonosian Industries for further technical modifications.

During the Battle of Geonosis, Archduke Poggle the Lesser, leader of the Geonosians, returned the top-secret designs to Count Dooku to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Jedi. Dooku took the designs back to Coruscant and gave them to Darth Sidious, his dark master.

Ok now the question I have is, Does Raith and Tarkin know Palpatine is a Sith Lord or a Chancellor that was "attacked" by Jedi and proclaim himself Emperor?

^ ^ ^ What a great question, seriously. It seems to me since the passage names Chancellor Palpatine as the recipient of the plans -- and not Darth Sidious -- then no, Tarkin and by extension Raith Sienar (whoever he is, exactly), did not know Palp. was a Sith Lord.

As to the Wookieepedia description, I like it and fully accept it, with one proviso: that Rienar developed the surface details of this "expeditionary battle planetoid" -- i.e., the towers and sentry guns -- whereas the Geonosians developed the tunnel-like corridors and internal halls and chambers. This would seem to be in keeping with the insectoid nature of the G's and the caves and caverns we see in AOTC.

Supporting evidence maybe, not necessarily an 'echo!'

Chron's just offering more sources, reinforcing those already presented.

    ^^^

Correct! Apologies if I stepped on a previous post that covered the same references or subject matter. That was not my intent.

BTW -- I can definitely 'echo' with the best of 'em when I choose to.[face_mischief]
