Who is in a fraternity or sorority?

I was reading the Greek101 catalog the other night and I was pretty entertained by their list of celebrities who are Greek. So I was wondering who on the JC is Greek.

I'm an Alpha Phi at Florida Tech.

And if you guys want, I can share with you who's in what fraternity/sorority. Some of it is pretty funny.

at my school we're not considered "real greeks" but instead wannabes.

which is quite funny, because most of us don't. we don't have against the greek system, we just like our way better.

 

Same at my school. "Real" greeks exist solely for sex, drunken parties, and elitist hoolaganism.

Yeah, that's way better than the co-ed service organizations.

 

One of my roommates is in A Phi O. Another one of my high school friends is too. A Phi O is a little weird and corrupt here from what I hear from her, but I think you guys are doing a great thing.

By the way, I do not want this to turn into a Greek bashing thread or "my organization is better than yours" type of thing. Please respect others.

Well, there's only one Alpha Phi up there.

Come on, are there seriously no other Greeks?

 

I'm a Phi Kappa Tau. There's an Alpha Phi chapter at my college.

 

What campus Jeff?

 

Im greek but our chapter is not Panhellenic, because the system is trashy here. We only have like 3 or 4 houses that are respectable.

Im in AKPsi, the professional business frat. It's in the top 20 in the nation for membership and #1 for professional fraternities.

Ive got brothers who are Phi Kappa Thetas as well, I think theyll get a laugh when they hear they are brothers of the Pope.

 

One person you'll not find on any of those lists is Darth Rayder. Darth Rayder doesn't have the money to buy friends.

 

Case Western Reserve University. It's in Cleveland.

 

I would be lying if I said my general perception and experiences with BSU's Greek system were positive. Still, I have a few friends who are Greek that are okay guys.

I still question; however, if philanthropy is as important to these organizations as they claim.

 

Yes of course, I decided that I couldn't make friends so I bought them. *rolls eyes* The money we pay goes towards the activities we participate in. Going to the movies with my sisters? It's paid for. Going to a leadership conference? Paid for.

I could tell you about all the philanthropy stuff we do, but of course someone will make a snotty comment. I personally enjoy doing it, because otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to make time in my schedule to do community service. This gives me the opportunity.

Some campuses have problems with their Greek system. It's what YOU make of it. If you decide all you want to do is booze your way through college, the opportunity is there. If you decide you want to pick up some leadership roles to better yourself, the opportunity is there. Darth Rayder if I can ask, how old are you and do you go to college/university?

 

Delta Tau Delta got kicked off our campus last semester. Ha! I go to Miami University (Ohio) and Greek is about 30-35% here. Though I am proud to say I am a GDI.

 

crimson - my roommate is in akpsi also... she loves it. it is considered a "real" fraternity at your school, or not as much?

on of the big differences (that i've noticed) between APO/AKPsi and "real" greeks is that we say we're in Alpha Phi Omega, while they say that they are a Delta Gamma.

 

I'm 20, and yes, I go to the University of Kansas. The Greeks here are, with VERY few exceptions, the stereotypical drunk elitist pains in the butt. They don't associate with anyone except their "brothers" or "sisters", and they look down on anyone not in the system.

 

It's just as bad at Marshall University.

Of course it's like that everywhere I guess.
