In AotC Sipho Dias is the man who ordered the clones to be made...who is he? I wonder this because it is name eteremely close to Sidious, as in Darth Sidious. I, not having read the books, but plan to soon, was just wondering that when I saw it last night. So who is he? It has been eating away at me for hours...

We will probably find out who he is later on. It's still puzzling the council at the end of the movie in some way. Okay it was probably at the back of their minds. I'm sure everything will be uncovered in episode III

I'm willing to bet it's Sidious. Think about how the names sound so similar... And that would explain why Palpatine is so interested in the Military Creation Act. Sidious... Sifo-Dyas... Think about it.

It was originaly sido-dyas but was changed due to the similarity between sidious. As they learn who Sidious is in AOTC, I do not think that it is the same person, but rather either Dooku or Sidious pretended to be sifo-dias after the real guy had died.

anyone think darth maul could have been the jedi formerly known as sifo-dyas? Maul was in Qui-Gon's words was "well trained in the jedi arts". I am not so sure the sith teach each other to fight so well. take dooku for example. he was a jedi, learned to fight as a jedi, then turned sith bad guy. Maul had all those tatoos to cover his identity as sifo-dyas. that's my theory at least

From what I gather, Palpatine never actually trained as a Jedi. The Sith recruited their ranks much as the Jedi do, only in secret. Remember when Yoda mentioned that there could only be two Sith lords? A master and an apprentice. Palpatine is obviously the master we're dealing with, but someone trained him just as he trained Darth Maul. And if Maul had trained as a Jedi, wouldn't Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan have recognized him? This is only based on the bits and pieces I've read, so I may not be 100% on this.

well, that's why I brought up the tatoos. think about it. how many times did quigon see maul? only once. not enuff time to see around the disguise. the second time he saw him it was the final duel, so if by chance they did recognize him it didn't matter because they were fighting him already. ya know? I know it probably won't end up like this, but it would be a neat twist.

Well, in the Darth Maul comics, they showed us that he is tattooed all over his body... Now that is a project that would definitely take some time. And the Jedi are probably more aware than that... I doubt one such as Qui-Gon would not recognize Maul if he knew him from before. I've not heard of anything to suggest that any of the Sith had anything to do with the Jedi (except kill them) since the time of Darth Bane. But I agree, it would be an interesting twist... Not too likely, but it would be kind of cool.

EU is not cannon, but it really doesn't matter in this case. In a deleted scene in AOTC, the librarian explained that Dooku was one of the only 20 jedi ever to leave to order. Darth Maul and Sidious were both unknown to the Jedi. Maul was trained by Sidious, and he definatly wasn't a Jedi prior to becoming a sith. There is a reason why he didn't talk to the Jedi during the battle, he was trained to kill them. If he had been a Jedi, Qui Gon would have known and said something, or Obi would have found out later. Just because Sidious doesn't apparently use the jedi arts doesn't mean he wouldn't know how.
