Wow. Thats all I have to say. I finsihed the comic novel Watchmen by Alan Moore and I'm still in shock. But I'd better start at the begining.

Watchmen is a comic book written in the 80's about a Earth where America has one the Vietnam war, and in outlawed Vigilante crime fighters, AKA superheros. But then a former super hero is murdered. And some suspect a plot against all former "costumes".
Don't expect awsome super hero and super villin fights in this book. Thats not what it's about. It's more about the balance of power shifts that a super powerful being( A Superman if you will) would bring. And how that would affact the Cold War.

And also there is a movie in the works. From what I've heard the script is good. Very good. And it's written by David Hyter, the writer for the X-men movies, and the upcoming films Black Widow and Iron Fist. And of course he is the voice of the legendary Solid Snake.

So anyone else read it and/or looking forward to the movie?

I got Watchmen for Christmas when I was 12. I guess my parents didn't crack the book to see what was inside. Years later, when I finally was able to read and comprehend it, I was really bowled over. It's a powerful and frightening story. I keep going back to my worn copy over and over and I keep picking up little things I hadn't noticed. I like the mix of the mystery, superhero, sci-fi, and even pirate comic genres with a cold yuppie/Cold War sheen. The relationships are like early Marvel angst all grown up and twisted. There's also lots of riffs on things I associate with the classic DC sensibility, such as the Minutemen's rather formal organization.

One of my favorite sequences in all of comicdom is the prison break. My favorite character gets to strut his stuff in some pretty creative ways there, and so nonchalantly, too. "Your hands. My perspective." Also, I love Rorschach's awkward attempts to reach out and be friendly with Dan, particularly that long handshake.

I love Watchmen like nothing else. It's just a fantastic, gripping story with great characters, that just happens to have such an incredible level of depth and detail that it's almost infinitely re-readable.

Darren Aranofsky was directing the movie project. He quit a few days ago, but the film's being rushed into production to meet a set deadline anyway, so it'll probably end up being a miserable disaster.

I really liked Watchmen, but I don't consider it to be one of the greatest comics ever, except in how is influenced other comics.
