I was just wondering if anyone here would like to start a Star Wars live action roleplaying game (larp) in Arkansas? Just curious.

I've NEVER larp'd before and, from what I've heard, it's a lot of fun but I'm not into the demonic stuff with witches and vampires and such but Star Wars sounds cool to me.

    What do ya'll think?

    Dumb idea or no?

Do you mean where we would meet up sometime and battle each other?

Yeah, like fight eachother in battles or just overall fun. Battles with stories or just for the sake of doing it.

There are some common actions in [the] Star Wars [games] that would prove to be very difficult to recreate in a live action Role-Playing format. For example: Force Push/Strike, Force Lightning, any of the Telekinesis abilities, the Jedi Burst of Speed and the great leaps that go with that, et al. Not to mention actually shooting at people (laser tag guns would seem most logical to do that with, being as they sound and look like sci-fi laser/blaster weapons) would be challenging.
And from my extensive table-top RPG experience I can see where certain mechanics (Hit Points and general attributes) would be hard to translate over into a LARP setting, let's face it none of us have the endurance to haul Yoda around and do any sort of flips while jogging around a Dagobah-like swamp much less to do hand-stands and concentrate on anything other than how much the inevitable falling on our face(s) will hurt. *g*
If what you're looking for is a more story-driven and interaction (between players) based game you could look into the possibility of going the on-line route via some chat room service or with an IM client and opening a private chat room session (virtually all of them do that - and some IM tools like "gAim" let you talk to virtually all IM networks from just that one application) and then you could lay down your ground rules. Things like "anything said is assumed to be the character's speach, unless preceded by OOC: (Out Of Character) and Actions would be denoted by *What is being done or attempted* and such. Then just have one person be the "judge" or "game master" role to determine what actions are done and what are failed and what-not. But that would be up to you and your group to determine how that all works (I would advise against a single person simply making his/her judgement calls on what actions have what effects and try to have some sort of guidelines for how those determinations are made - saves a lot of grief if things go bad for a player at some point (and let's face it, like in real life characters in games have things go wrong/bad from time to time too).

I hope that's not too much to take in, I didn't mean it to be a novel of a post, but as an experienced gamer I thought I'd add my $0.02 for you and hopefully provide some worthwhile insight/advice/thoughts/what-ever. ^_^

I actually have a system for the game that actually works with each person's own physical attributes and the force powers in the game can work like magic in any other larp. Throw something soft and pre-designated as whatever power is available. As for the flipping and moving stuff around with your mind I think that most people would just love the opportunity to bash at folk with a lightsaber or something. I also have a combat system worked out for personal combat and, to help along with Jedi vs. Troopers or something there is melee combat available for all person's.

I've been toying with the idea for a while and, If anyone wants to try it we might just have fun.

Think of it like we used to play it when we were kids. Just with rules and lots less arguing. The real point of doing this isn't just to birth a live action videogame but to get as close to a star wars experience in a park as possible and still have a lot of fun.
