Who would you say Anakins #1 nemesis is?

A lot went on during the clone wars, Anakin and obi-wan have both had many enemy's but who would you say Anakins #1 nemesis is? There is pretty much only 2 choices between asaj ventris and count dooku and i personally would say the count becouse while ventris gave both of them a lot of trouble she was more obi-wans nemesis becouse of how obi-wan pretty much was obsessed with her by the end of the war and dooku made it very personal when it came to Anakin with how he cut off his hand and antagonized him and all. also durge was more troubling to obi-wan IMO but What do you think?

Yeah, I would also say that Anakin's #1 nemesis is....himself.

Aaaand maybe Obi-Wan (^in Anakin's mind^).

 

Maybe Palpatine if it had to be an actual person, and the dangerous thing is Palpatine comes across as a friend.

But I have to agree with Anakin being his own worst enemy.

 

That pesky lightsaber that he keeps losing.

 

It certainly is not Ventris since her mention in PT is so minor. Clearly she is not imperative to the story. A nemesis appears several times. I would say its Anakin himself, Dooku or Kenobi. Of course for Kenobi you have to agree that Anakin and Darth Vader are the same person and this whole notion that they are separate is merely a way for Obi Wan to explain being a big LIAR in the OT...

or Dooku. He really hated Dooku.

Kenobi is Darth Vader's nemesis. Dooku is Anakin's.

 

Anakin's real worst nemesis is himself as has been said, though I would imagine Anakin believed it was Dooku.

Once he falls, his worst nemesis becomes Obi-Wan "Thorn in the Sith's side" Kenobi.

 

In a broad sense, Anakin is his own worst enemy. Others at times are arguably his worst enemy as well.

More specifically, I believe his 'worst enemy' is not a 'who' but a 'what.' It is something that constantly hovers over him most of his life.

Anakin's nemesis, the reason that he is taken from his mother and placed before the council by Qui-Gon in the first place, that reason he is a Jedi, that he is conflicted with himself, is the prophecy of the chosen one.

The prophecy, and Anakin's potential to fulfill it, is the main vehicle for his relationships to Obi-Wan, Padme, Mace, Palpatine and Dooku.

IMHO, it is the burden of the archaic Jedi prophecy that leads Anakin to become his own worst enemy -- so in a sense, the prophecy itself is Anakin's constant 'shadowy nemesis.'

 

I believe that Anakin's greatest enemy is the " The Chosen One" prophecy and the force itself.

 

Sorry, what i mean is an actual other person, as in during the clone wars who was the bad guy that gave him the most trouble. Like i would say ventris is obi-wans nemesis.

There is durge, dooku, ventris, grevious and others but witch one would you say is anakins nemesis?

 

Of those, I'd say Dooku given that he had taken his arm and was leader of the Confederacy.

I have to agree with the majority here - Anakin's worst enemy is definetly himself.

Any one else, maybe Mace Windu? If it had been Obi-Wan standing over Palpatine with a lightsaber, I don't think he would have been so quick to cut of his hand?

If it has to be a 'person,' then I vote for Jar Jar.

The infamous Binks proposes the motion giving Palpatine emergency powers. Without the amphibian's proposal, Palpatine remains little more than another Valorum in the senate, albeit he would still control the powerful Trade Federation as Lord Sidious.

 

You know, why does everybody think it's JarJar's fault for giving palpatine emergency powers? People act like it was just him alone and not the other hundred or so circumstances that led up to the moment.

 

You guys dont understand, what i mean is who do you think anakins nemesis in the clone wars is. I dont mean the PT in general, just the clone wars, as in asajj ventress, durge, dukoo , general grievous and people like that, enemies.

For example grievous couldn't be one becouse the first time he meant anakin was in ROTS. Im talking about who do you think gave anakin (and obi-wan) the most trouble during the clone wars enough to be called him #1 nemesis?

 

This should be the overwhelming favorite.

 

Well, Grevious could still have been his nemesis even if they didn't meet, since GG was in charge of some situations that prolonged the war, which was bad for Anakin- even if they never actually came face to face.

And I definitely agree with the rest of the people in this thread that Anakin's worst enemy was himself- his own doubts, pride, fear, etc.

These issues he had caused about as many problems for Anakin as these other people, which is why everyone thinks that he is his own worst enemy. The problems they create might not be as obvious as what the other people to do him, but his inner issues turn out to be more lethal. I mean, he gets all of his arms and legs chopped off and almost burns to death and kills all of his friends.

Nothing worse than that happens to Anakin, so that's why everyone keeps saying that he is his own worst enemy.


If you insist on a person other than Anakin being his nemesis, I guess Dooku or Asaaj or Grevious because they were all big problems for him in the war.

Well if that is what you mean then you would need to post a thread in the Television forum. We'll continue this thread as it pertains to the PT, which is what this forum's discussions should be about.

 

I like the reading that Anakin's main nemesis was himself, since that (IMO) furthers the idea that, symbolically speaking, Darth Vader was a separate entity who consumed Anakin from within.

 

Other than the obvious answer of himself, I'd say time and circumstance.
