Really tough one, I think Samuel Jackson was awesome in Unbreakable, Changing lanes,Caveman's valentine, Negotiator, Palp fiction, etc) Then again, I also think Denzel Washington give Oscar performances in many of his movies (John Q, Training Day, Malcolm X, Remember the Titans, The Hurricane).

I can't decide, and maybe we shouldn't at all. They are both really awesome, and I would always be excited to see a movie with them starring it. It's great to have one of them in Star Wars, Mace Kicked butt in Clones man! Denzel only starred in one Sci-Fi - Virtuosity, wasn't the best work.

    Anyway, what do you say?

Jackson by sheer volume. Denzel always appears to disappear off the Hollywood radar until fall (re: Oscar time), where you can usually find him in some sweeping 3-hour drama.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sam Jackson. Especially in Episode II. He also has a great voice for over the top type performances like Pulp Fiction.

However, with the exception of Episode I and II, I like DEnzels movies slightly better than most of Samuel's.

    Denzels work:

Glory, Crimson Tide, Remember the Titans, The Hurricane, Philadelphia, and Training Day to name a few.

    But Sam is great too.

I like Samuel better, but I think Denzel's has had roles with more substance overall. So, I think I have to give it to Denzel.

I haven't seen much of Denzel's work, so I have to go with Samuel L. Denzel was awesome in Glory though.

Samuel L Jackson is one of my favorite actors anyways.

I think Denzel is a better actor, but Samuel L Jackson is more likely to star in a movie I'll go see. And saying Denzel is better isn't really an insult, he's probably one of the best actors out there.

Denzel Washington is an outstanding actor who's done an excellent job in just about every film he's made. He's more of a 'seasoned' or 'stoic' kind of actor.

But Samuel L. Jackson is a "passionate" actor ... he puts a kind of life into his roles/characters. Seriously, look into his face and eyes when he's speaking some of his lines ... you can really believe who he is, what the situation is, and what's going on in his head.

As a SW fan, I'd have to say "Jackson", but I think its a tie between the two. It depends upon what kind of "mood" your in and what film you are watching. :)

    Samuel L. Jackson.

Denzel's good at making speeches and that's about it. He has no range.

Aside from Training Day, Denzel plays the 'sensitive smart man' in every movie.

Look at the versatility from Unbreakable to Pulp Fiction of Sam Jackson's characters. Both are deep, very deep characters, so much so that they are almost iconic.

    I'd say Samuel L. Jackson.

Sam Jackson shows pure talent in his movies. He has a presense that no other actor has. Im not saying that Denzel is bad, but....Samuel L Jackson is better!

I think Sam Jackson is a better actor. While I think Denzel is terrific, Sam has managed to pull off roles in so many different types of film wonderfully.

Plus, Sam is the coolest actor this side of the acting community

    Here is my opinion:

Denzel Washington has not been in Star Wars.

Samuel Jackson plays a big role in Star Wars.

    Go figure...

Yes, Denzel is the better actor...

    :D

I haven't seen enough of either one's movies to know.

Samuel L. Jackson easily trumps Denzel, IMO.

    Denzel is HIGHLY overrated.

I have to say Denzel for the exact same reason that everyone else is saying Sam.

Volume of work. SLJ will take any role thrown at him. He is a film whore. Not that that is necessarly a bad thing but I've seen him in some really bad roles. I can't think of a Denzel movie I didn't like. (though I'll never know about John Q because I refuse to see it.)

Denzel Washington & Samuel Jackson are both good actors. But both combined don't equal the talents of the one, the only, the true original...

Denzel is by FAR the better actor. If you just take Philidelphia, Malcom X, and Training Day, and compare them to ANY Sam Jackson movies you choose, Denzel's performances are far better, deeper, and more believable.

Don't get me wrong: Sam Jackson is a great movie star, and I enjoy him a lot. But when I see him in a movie, I just see Sam Jackson being charismatic. When I see Denzel in a movie, I see his character.

    No competition- Sammy's da man!

I liek Denzel in a lot of stuff, but Training sucked horribly.

And Sammy has the greatest personality. :)

I personally didnt think Denzel deserved that Oscar for "Training Day". He is over-rated.

An easy way to settle this is to imagine Denzel in all of Samuel L's roles. Try to imagine Denzel as Jules in Pulp Fiction. Then try to imagine Washington in "A Time To Kill". Then try to imagine him as Mace Windu. Makes your skin crawl doesnt it? Samuel L. Is so much better an actor than him it isnt even funny.

Samuel L. is the most under-rated actor there is today.

    Just my two pennies worth.
