I like both, but I'm biased toward Shadow. I like how Sonic is basically an environmentalist alien, but his adolescent personality isn't relatable anymore. Cute, fun dude, but ya know... Shadow is often called an edgelord, but he isn't. He was traumatized by Maria's death. Maria was like a sister to him. And I find it remarkable that he decided to become a good guy later and protect humankind despite his disdain for them. If it hadn't been for Maria's past encouragement and his other experiences, he wouldn't have done that. So, yeah. Shadow's rough around the edges, but he's quite nuanced. Therefore, I'll vote for him.
I've only ever played the 2D Sonic games where they don't talk and there's no Shadow, so I really can't say.
All good. I became a fan of Shadow after seeing him in the 2005 game. Plus, his storyline is loved in the 2006 game. I think they did a good job with the storylines of Sonic and Silver in that game, but Shadow's was the most straightforward. Mephiles asked him to help him destroy humanity, and Shadow refused, despite his dislike of the species. By that point, he had committed to protect them. So, that's what makes him interesting to me.
I like the one that does that loop-de-loop and just hoovers up all those gold rings. It’s like ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, thank you very much.
I've been playing the Sonic Forces mobile game lately (it's a lot of fun actually). Before that I knew of none of the characters except Sonic and Tails. The correct answer, BTW, is Silver the Hedgehog.
The Shadow the Hedgehog game is great because you want to be going really fast but your mission objective is to kill every single enemy on the map so you can’t, and then you miss one somewhere and go through the entire mission like five times desperately searching for it, fail, and then give up. Anyways I voted for Shadow because I love the edgy guy.
Sonic is better known. But just wait till Shadow gets his own movie. Sonic and Shadow are actually the same speed. Sonic runs. Shadow skates. Plain and simple. I mean, Shadow defeated the dark lord of an alien invasion. He's technically more powerful than Sonic. But once they're both enchanted with chaos emeralds, no question. Equals again. Silver, Sonic, and Shadow have to destroy someone who wants to obliterate all multiverses and time itself. So, they're all pretty cool. Shadow is the Ultimate Lifeform. And just to be clear, he and Maria are not lovers. She was his sister-figure. Some Americans get that wrong. "Shadow, I beg of you...protect all the people on that planet. I know you can do it." - Maria's last words to Shadow
Are you telling me that they made a second, edgy version of Sonic? After Knuckles? What happened here exactly? This is like Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.
I wonder how many people in here can say that they actually bought the original game for the Sega Genesis back in the day. When I got my Genesis console it came with Altered Beast, but I was among the lucky ones who received the free voucher for Sonic. Of course I got Sonic 2 when it was first released.
One of the interesting things about Shadow is that he doesn't think that Dr. Eggman is insane. He respects him, but he also views him as a rival. I love how Eggman actually has to work with the good guys to defeat worse villains in recent games. I look forward to Shadow being introduced into the live-action movies. I imagine they'll show him as a villain but he'll redeem himself once he regains his memories. Plus, they may do something different as opposed to portraying him as being created by Eggman's grandfather. But maybe he was created by the same dude. There's a lot you can do with him. Sonic is adorable and more mainstream. Shadow isn't afraid to cross the line in order to get the job done, though.
I never got into the sonic mythology because I didn't have a genesis but also whenever I played it I wasn't any good at the game cuz I'd do the power up and buzz through the map thing that they did in all the ads yelling about how cool BLAST PROCESSING is But all I did was blast into a spike and then lose all my coins. Which is why I really don't know anything about the larger verse. Even when that random character showed up in the post-credit teaser in the movie I sorta remembered them as the two player option from Sonic 2, I think. Oh, neat, just fell down a youtube rabbit hole when I should be working on something else. the guy from Twin Peaks Red Room was in the ad for Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic because I usually prefer the first iteration of something. But then if Shadow is an Edgelord, that's strong competition.
I came in later (my parents bought me a used Genesis from a garage sale after it was already discontinued, and all of my games for it came from a local flea market), but I did have both the original Sonic and Sonic 2. I sucked at both and never made it off the first "world" or whatever the groups of levels were called in either one, but I did find cheat codes that produced level select screens and so I did try many of the levels. I never played any other Sonic game though.
