    1. Zekk
Made for Jaina, and she basically though uncertainly rejects him before his "disappearance." He's an orphan, Jaina resuces him from the Shadow Academy to become a Jedi. Became a joiner with Jaina Solo during the Dark Nest crisis. He loved her, but she only wanted to be friends, not sure about her feelings toward him, flip-flopping bck and forth between him and Jag Fel. When he's finally about to go ona a date with someone else, and Jaina seems to be ready to finally choose Jag, and everybody might finally get some resolution... he mysteriously disappears.

    2. Tenel Ka
Made for Jacen, and he becomes an evil Sith and betrays her before dying. She becomes a Jedi, hiding she's a princess at first. Her friend Jacen accidentally slices off her arm after her lightsaber fails. She realized she loved Jacen when he supposedly died with Anakin on Myrkr. Her grandmother killed her pregnant mother, and tried to force her friend Jaina to marry her recently widowed father. Tenel Ka is forced to become the new Queen Mother of Hapes. Jacen comes back, she has Jacen's baby, which her grandmother tries to assassinate, who Jacen then turns into a vegetable. She's nearly assassinated again by the Corellian sympathizers. Jacen secretly becomes a Sith Lord, and she decides to stick to her principles and deflect from him during the Battle of Kashyyyk, which nearly breaks her heart. He then kidnaps their daughter for a while, putting Allana in danger. The Hapans betray her, a nanokiller almost kills her and kills off her relatives on her flagship. Jacen then kills her father. Jacen is defeated, bu dies warning her. She fakes the death of her daughter so she can live a safer life with Jacen's parents, but away from her and under a new name, while continuing to lead the treacherous Hapans at the risk of her life by herself.

    3. Tahiri
Made for Anakin, but he died which turned her into a psychological mess. Parents killed, raised by Tusken Raiders. Captured by the Yuuzhan Vong and "shaped," giving her a split personality with a Vong mind. Anakin rescues her, they're about to start a romance, and he's killed. She struggles with her split personality. She becomes a Joiner during the Dark Nest crisis, and is banished to Dagobah by Luke for telling him to watch out for Jacen. Forgetting her own advice, she becomes Jacen's Sith apprentice because he flow-walk her into reliving memories with Anakin, and kills Pellaeon. She tries to "seduce" Ben, fails, accidentally tortures his friend to death, is told she can't change the past by Jacen, becomes mad at Jacen and tells him off in front of his Moff friends, and then Ben redeems her so she surrenders and spills all. Says she's finally done with the Solo boys, all of them. Has been orphaned, turned Tusken Raider, turned Jedi, turned Yuuzhan Vong, turned Jedi again, turned Killik Joiner, exiled and turned back to the Jedi yet again, turned Sith, now turning...Bounty Hunter?

Until you put it like that, I never realised quite how dark the current books are...

    Dang...

I wanna say Tenel Ka. At least with Zekk, he can disappear for a bit and find some semblance of happiness. Tahiri... she might get some help.

What about Lusa? Half a paragraph and she's dead.

Easy answer. Tahiri in spades. I just think of her reshaping at 14 and the loss of Anakin so yeah, she had it the worst.

Definately Tahiri, she's just a mess, she doesn't know what's going on with herself. Simply put, she's lost.

    tenal ka

tahiri may have lost a loved one but tenal ka has lost her family was betrayed by her loved one and then had to deal with his death.
she also gave up her child to the solos in hopes of keeping her safe which was one of the only happy things still in her life.

In Zekk's and Tahiri's cases, there are chances that they might find some semblance of happiness. As for Tenel Ka, the only chances she has of being reunited with Allana would be to either put down the rebellious elements or abdicate her throne and resume her life as a Jedi.

    Life ain't fair.

The fact the NJO survived the Vong invasion relatively intact is more than enough to be thankful of.

I'd say Tahiri had it worst, since she was physically, psychologically, and emotionally torn apart by her shaping, Anakin's death, Jacen's false hints of being able to revive Anakin in order to enslave her, etc.

Zekk, if he is alive, is still relatively stable both mentally and physically.

Tenel Ka is still as strong of a person as ever.

Also, both Tenel Ka and Zekk remain close to their Jedi family while Tahiri's future remains uncertain.

I'm going to go with Tahiri.

Zekk and Tenel Ka are both stable and can pull themselves up by the shoelaces if need be.

Tahiri has absolutely no one, and that is :( Now IMO, some of that is her fault and some of it certainly isn't, but regardless - it is what it is.

Hopefully Ben Skywalker will go to bat for her.

    Moral of this thread?

Don't fall in love with a Solo child. :_|

What about Raynar ? Poor guy gets blown up and left for dead, then becomes the Joiner King, then pretty much loses it again and is basically a vegetable at this point.

Tenel Ka has always been strong and will continue to be strong long after the deaths of her family members. However, my vote goes towards Tahiri. She's got no telling how many issues with Anakin's death alone without mentioning being shaped into a Jedi/Yuuzhan Vong hybrid, becoming a Joiner, and being lured into becoming a Sith apprentice...she's one messed up Vong chick.

Tahiri because Anakin is gone and Jacen who pulled her to the dark side is gone too. She really does not have anyone. Maybe Jaina or Leia might help her but she has been told so many lies, has been to the dark side, and has no family. Hopefuly one of the writers will love her enough to let her be happy with someone. Zekk is MIA so it's not that hard to get hurt when no one can find you. Tenel Ka has to give her daughter up to keep her safe but she could maybe talk to Allana once in a while and she has always been strong so I'm not too worried about her.

    B/R = OTP.

I thought about it, and I'm starting to feel like Riina Kwaad had it worst, if you know what I mean.

    QFT... and lols.

Hmm, Zekk needs to find some happiness, and Tahiri REALLY needs to find some happiness, so who else is thinking that some author will have the bright idea to make them find happiness together?

But yeah, Tahiri really had it the hardest.

All three have had it bad..... I think Tahiri takes the cake... but only just...

    all three are orphans

all three have lost their loves

two have suffered physically (Tahiri Shaping, Tenel Ka's arm)

one was tortured, later twisted into a Sith and the future of her connection to her Jedi family in doubt.

The type of post I'd expect from the biggest a NJO/LOTF supporter...

Star Wars isn't SUPPOSE to be like 'real life'. You are suppose to *escape* from Real Life in it.

We have gotten POOR characterization for the entire Del Rey run. Posts like these, Whizkid, are indications that a LOT of people are *tired* of it. That we want to go back to the good ol' days of Bantam. We're tired of the Dark. We're tired of the Depressing. This isn't even Star Wars anymore. Its ANGST WARS.

During the OT, you watch Star Wars and wish, "Man I wish my life could be like that".

Then, you read about the Vong War and think "DAMN! I have it good!"

Of course...SW has always been pretty dark. As far as our original characters, Leia had it worse than any of this new generation. Remember Alderaan? I think they might have had it the worst...I wonder what psychological ramifications would exist for having your entire planet destroyed? I bet Leia sits around and just groans while all these pre-teens complain about how bad they have it. Losing your whole family, planet and then being physically and mentally tortured by a man you later discover is your father? Oh, and then you inadvertently make out with your twin brother? Yeah....And, if that's not enough, a morbidly obese alien slug makes you his girl toy in a metal bikini and tries to give you to a bounty hunter. Yeah...scars. However, despite it all, she becomes a great woman and successful human being. You don't see her falling to madness like Tahiri or these other whiners. It's sort of like Luke's conversation with cade about how every generation has its own challenges. Why should yours be any different?

Since SW has always been dark and full of angst, maybe the problem is we need more balance between the two. Add in bits of comedy, light-warmheartedness etc. LOTF actually achieved this far better than the NJO, IMO

I love Leia and I think her strength and incredible interior fortitude are often over looked, but even I've never quite looked at it like that. [face_peace]

    Very elegently put Jay. [face_peace]

And you're right on about Luke and Cade.

Tahiri by far...but she can bounce back. Zekk's just been mired in the situation of going after the girl that normally he'd never get.

I get tired of people saying the OT was all bunnies and flowers.

Leia loses her homeworld and family.

Luke loses his Aunt and Uncle, discovers his Father is a sociopathic murderer, dies with said father, loses both of his mentors.

Think about it like this: there are the same number of deaths among the main heroes in the OT and the NJO, and the PT has far more.
