Who's the better chef, Gordon Ramsay or Emeril Lagasse?

I haven't been to either of their restaurants, though I used to work across the street from Emeril's. I do, however, enjoy watching Ramsay on television more than Lagasse.

I like to watch Gordon's show on BBC America where he goes to restaurants and finds ways to fix them. Fox did a version of this show but they Fox-atized it and made it stupid. The version on BBCA is much better. I have not watched any of his reality contest shows though.

I'm not sure who Emeril Lagasse is. Therefore I say Gordon Ramsay wins.

I haven't eaten anything made by either of them. So I don't think I'm in a good position to answer this question.

I liked the Fox show. Although I heard that some of the restaurants accused Fox and Gordon of deliberately messing up the restaurants for the show, to make them appear much worse than they were.

Have you seen the British version though? The British is treated more like an actual documentary, and Fox likes to really heighten the drama with antics.

    I would personally say Ramsay.

Doesn't matter. Alton Brown is superior to both. Combined.

How can I go about viewing the British version? Are there episodes online?

Somebody had them on Youtube a few months ago but I think they got taken down. BBC America airs them all the time though, if you get that channel.

I have eaten in Gordon's original restaurant on Old Hospital Road, and the food was absolutely fantastic.

I have not eaten in Emeril Lagasse's joint.

I am not a lot of help to the decision-making, I'm afraid.

I had no idea there were so many F-bombs. Evidently censorship is a lot less strict over the in the UK. :p

It was approximately 5 years ago, Valyn, so I can't remember for sure. However, I think it highly likely that I would have had (look away NOW vegetarians!) fois gras followed by beef fillet of some sort.

We were taking one of our clients there, so my agency would have paid and therefore it would have been VERY reasonable.

    :p

But in all honesty, I certainly don't remember thinking that we had been ripped-off, and, without doubt, the food and service were impeccable. Particularly, the Maître d' and the sommelier made everyone feel totally at ease and certainly there was no 'looking down noses' (as there can sometimes be at such prestigious places) at those of us who had not been to the restaurant before, or who were asking (idiot) questions.

It was a fabulous experience that I would recommend saving up for if one likes one's food.

So I just finished watching two episodes of the BBC Kitchen Nightmares program and...I find the Fox program to be a lot more exciting. This was kind of boring.

Fox makes the show artificially exciting through outlandish editing. The BBCA show is very interesting, to me, and not over the top.

I'm sorry, it's just that the Fox program has fighting, crying, drama, action, comedy, and love!

The BBC program has...Gordon narrating things that are going on with people who speak in accents too thick for me to understand.

This last season of Hell's Kitchen almost played like a scripted sitcom. It even had villains.

I haven't had any food that was personally cooked by either of them so I can't answer the question.

    However..

I do have few friends that are chefs and their cooking is awesome.
