Why are missiles/rockets only used in the PT?

I am wondering this because missiles are used in AOTC and ROTS, but never used once in any of the OT movies.

I am assuming that rocket/missile technology becomes obsolete for some reason. I recall reading a couple of years ago (I forget the source) that this issue would be resolved in Episode III.

So what gives? Wouldn't missiles have helped the rebels defeat the walkers in ESB?

The laser cannons that they have in the OT are much more efficient than rockets. They're faster and likely more powerful.
    That's evolution!

    Rockets are obsolete

What was used to blow up the first death star then? Wasn't that some sort of torpedo?

I'm just wondering why so many missiles are used in battles in the PT and not the OT?

For example in AOTC, Jango shoots a missile to try and shoot down Obi-Wan in the asteroids. Also, the land battle at the end had all kinds of missiles being used by both sides, and they were effective at taking out large vehicles.

In ROTS we have a droid missile that hits Obi-Wan's ship.

When X-Wings are battling Tie Fighters, or the Imperial walkers are bearing down on the rebels we don't have any of that.

It would be kinda hard to get a toy missle on a stick flying around to look realistic...

This issue was in fact resolved in AOTC. Recall the "We're out of rockets, sir" line.

They ran out of rockets long before the OT timeline.

You mean the Republic army used up all the missiles in the galaxy in ten minutes of battle?

Wheren't they described as proton torpedoes? I assumed they were just a proton ball fired at the Death Star, not an actual torpedo.

I'm pretty sure they were phased out in favor of proton torpes.

Proton torpedoes were projectiles as well - they just .. um.. glowed.

Used to blow up the first Death Star (and the second), and take out the Executor's shields. They don't fire in a straight fast ray, it's like a mini-fireball which flies with a small fiery trail.

Tie bombers also dropped lots of little glowing bits at the asteroid field to try and flush the falcon out. I assume that it was much easier to film using the CGI technology back then.

If you've played the X-Wing Alliance game, they have a whole bunch of missle-ish weapons.

Concussion missiles. Proton Torpedoes. Ion pulse rockets (disables ships), and space bombs. They're pretty neat and most just show up as a glowing thing followed by a streaking tail (like a comet).

The used missles in the OT. The used a combination of concussion missles and proton torpeodes to destroy the reactor in the second death star.

Missiles are carried by V-wings, X-wings, TIE Defenders, A-wings, B-wings, and Y-wings if neccessary. Proton Torpedos, Concussion missles, and cluster missiles are all used in the periods between the OT and after ROTJ.

After the AT-TEs were blown up super-easy by missiles, the Empire realized their walkers weren't strong enough. So, they beefed up the armor and now the missiles are obsolete.

My reason just to tie in with the story other than technology to make the film is that thay didn't need them later on in the story.

Every single missle including your friend Proton Torpedo, is now an enemy of the Republic. Once more turbolasers will rule the galaxy...and we will have Peace.

    LOL.

Seriously, you never see missiles used in the OT, besides ANH and ROTJ at reactor, because they were just overkill on anything else. Think about it. Would you use a thermonuclear warhead on a single jet fighter in real life?

    Didn't think so.
