Why are there busts of the Lost Twenty? I mean: They have left the Jedi Order and this leaving certainly is a bad thing. They are fallen Jedi. So why are they praised by the Jedi by creating busts for them and putting them in such a respectable place like the Jedi Library?!?

Yoda's bust is in there and he is very much still in the order.

    Here he is

    And here is Saesee Tiin

I always thought that it was more of a Jedi Hall of Fame. Once you are elected into a Hall of Fame, your membership is not likely to be revoked.

Take O.J. Simpson for instance. He is still very much a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, because he was an overly exceptional running back. I imagine that Dooku is still has a bust in the Jedi Library because, before he left the order, he was an overly exceptional Jedi.

    Mace Windy,

I think we should remember they aren't necessarily fallen. They have merely left the Order (as far as we know, only Dooku was seduced by the Dark Side after doing so). This just speaks to a culture among the Jedi where, because it's a religious Order, most people live out their lives as a part of it. The problems with retiring from it are, I suspect, much the same of a King abdicating during the era of divine right, or of a monk/nun leaving their order.

That is, presumably, they've given up their whole lives because they were "called" to do this certain thing, and live a certain way as a result. How is it, exactly, that one would get "un-called?" So while people in their old age might stop having really serious duties (or any at all), they would still maintain their association with whatever group they were called to.

So for a Jedi to completely retire from the Order would be pretty rare. The fact that they have monuments simply means that they all left on good terms. Further, it is a nod to how rare of an event it is, and how much they are missed.

Not to be nit-picky or anything, but the plural of Jedi is Jedi, not Jedis.

    1 sheep, 2 sheep.
    1 Jedi, 2 Jedi.

    Tell that to George Lucas.

Pay attention. Yoda and Saesee Tiin have their busts in the library and they have not left anything.

there is a confusion: the bust doesn't represents the lost 20, but the jedi hall of fame as u said...dooku is there because he was a great jedi before....

INT. JEDI TEMPLE, ARCHIVES LIBRARY - DAY
A bronze bust of Count Dooku stands among a line of other busts of Jedi
in the Archive Room. OBI-WAN stands in front it, studying the striking
    features of the chiseled face.

On the walls, lighted computer panels seem to stretch into infinity. Farther
along the room in the background, FIVE JEDI are seated at tables, studying
    archival material.

After OBI-WAN studies the bust for a few moments before MADAME JOCASTA
    NU
, the Jedi Archivist, is standing next to him. She is an elderly, frail-
looking human Jedi. Tough as old boots and smart as a whip.

    JOCASTA NU
    Did you call for assistance?

    OBI-WAN
    (distracted in thought)
    Yes...yes, I did...

    JOCASTA NU
He has a powerful face, doesn't
he? He was one of the most
brilliant Jedi I have had the
    privilege of knowing.

    OBI-WAN
I never understood why he quit.
Only twenty Jedi have ever left
    the Order.

    JOCASTA NU
    (sighs)
    The Lost Twenty...and Count Dooku
was the most recent and the most
painful. No one likes to talk
about it. His leaving was a great
    loss to the Order.

    OBI-WAN
    What happened?

    JOCASTA NU
Well, Count Dooku was always a
bit out of step with the decisions
    of the Council...much like your
    old Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.

    OBI-WAN
    (surprised)
    Really?

    JOCASTA NU
Oh, yes. They were alike in many
    ways. Very individual thinkers...
    idealists...

JOCASTA NU stares at the bust.

    JOCASTA NU
    (continuing)
He was always striving to become a more
powerful Jedi. He wanted to be the best.
With a lightsaber, in the old style of fencing,
he had no match. His knowledge of the Force
was...unique. In the end, I think he left
because he lost faith in the Republic.
He believed that politics were corrupt, and
he felt the Jedi betrayed themselves by
serving the politicians. He always had
very high expectations of government. He
disappeared for nine or ten years, then
he just showed up recently as the head
    of the separatist movement.

    OBI-WAN
It's very interesting. I'm still not
    sure I completely understand.

    JOCASTA NU
Well, I'm sure you didn't call me
over here for a history lesson. Are
you having a problem, Master Kenobi?
    One tiny nota bene, here:

It's since been confirmed by Lucasfilm that the so-called "Lost Twenty" are, in fact, the twenty Jedi Masters who have left the order over the last 1,000 years since the Republic's refounding. Rather than the "twenty knights" that many folks believed from beforehand.

The busts in the library represent all of the studio executives in Hollywood who turned down the opportunity to make the original Star Wars. ;)

Ned Tanen's bust can be found in a special vat of boiling hyena vomit over in the corner of the library.
