Han does it, Vader does it, Lando does it. And it never fails to annoy me.

    Millenium FALL-CON

It's not FALL it's FAL. FAHL. Not FAWL. NOBODY gets it right!

There must be a reason for this. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that half the characters (and Lucas himself) don't know how to pronounce Leia or Han or Dooku.

I think it just has to do with everyone having somewhat different accents. As with everyone, people just pronounce things differently. There are tons of different drawls and accents in the United States alone.

    Just my humble opinion.

Meh. It doesn't make much difference to me. Mispronouncing characters' names is one thing, but a ship doesn't go around saying, "Millennium FALcon - ever heard of me - names FALcon not FALLCON!!" I'm quick to correct people when they mispronounce my last name; which happens quite frequently, but I doubt a ship cares that much. Besides, the pronounciation of FALLcon is an accepted version of the word "falcon" according to Webster's and the Oxford English Dictionaries (I'm a nerd; I checked), so I don't see why someone couldn't say it that way.

Millenium FALcon sounds weird to me. I always pronounced it the way you hate it.

If you don't pronounce it right, does that make you...

    ...a FALCON idiot? 8-}

the various pronunciations of the same names are one of the things that makes SW so endearing...it's not perfect.

FALLcon sounds more correct to me. FALcon sounds artificial.

No different than Han and Hahn (I go with the Hahn sound myself).

I agree, the Han version sounds weird, but I HAVE heard it pronounced both ways in my life, so it shouldnt be a big deal.

    Han - Hahn
    Leia - Lieea
    Falcon - Fallcon
    Gungans - Goongans
    Naboo - Nayboo
    Luke - Whiner

    All interchangable to me

I think it's all about accents - here in Britain, I've always heard it pronounced "FALL-con", and never "FAL-con".

James Earl Jones, being a classically trained actor, probably naturally pronounces "Falcon" as FALL-kun.

I personally think one of Vader's coolest lines is:
"Are you sure your men deactivated the hyperdrive on the Millenium Falcon?"

It sounds so cool the way he says "Falcon" in my opinion.

But I agree with the second poster...chalk it up to different accents. People from different parts of the USA don't even pronounce things the same. How much moreso would it be for people hailing from different WORLDS?

Reminds me of how Pernilla August was worried about her accent not being right for Star Wars.
Lucas just told her "Don't worry about it, Shmi just comes from a Swedish part of the Galaxy."

Wow. Of all the things to nit-pick. Its the name of a ship. It doesn't have to be pronounced the way its spoken in the states.

I'd be willing to bet that the word falcon was originally pronounced fall-kun when the word was created.

"(and Lucas himself) don't know how to pronounce Leia or Han or Dooku."

Uhhhh.... If Lucas created the characters and made up the names himself, how in the hell can he mispronounce them?

As for Falcon, the dictionary accepts either way, so nobody is wrong.

Personal note: I say "Millenium FALL-con." But when talking about the raptor, I say "fal-con."

In New Zealand we say FAL-con, but most of the Brits I know say FALL-con. Americans all say it differently too and they are all valid.

    " I don't know...

Heh. Well, the way he's last said it is the correct term. His vocal chords are canon, and overwrite anything that they have said before! :D

Look how obi-wan and Lando say Chewbacca's name
or how some call Han, Hand

I always call it Fall-Con,that's how it should be. Makes it sound more like a ship and not a bird

Don't Americans argue about the pronounciation for tomato (or potato?), too?

Maybe FAHLcon becomes FALLcon after "Faster, more intense"? ;)
