So something I've noticed in the past but didn't think much of, but noticed it more closely today when rewatching the marathon on TNT. When Lando's guards rescue them and arrest the stormtroopers, lando takes two of their blasters, even though there are 3 people (him, leia, and chewie) who could use them. There were at least two extra blaster rifles as he handed some off to lobot. I think it was maybe because lando didn't want to have to lug one around while doing other stuff on the run, but if that's the case he should have at least taken a small pistol from one of lobot's guards instead. What do you think?
No, he didn't. They were unarmed. Unless you think he was going to use Threepio as a weapon, which is probably what he worried about happening. For reasons that are unclear, Lando chose to remain weaponless until Chewie went aboard the Falcon.
Really? If I remember correctly both Lando and Leia had stormtrooper blasters and were firing them all the way until they took off with the Falcon. I definitely remember Lando firing as well. I'll have to rewatch that scene to be sure though.
After looking it up (screencaps) - he definitely had a blaster when they arrived at the Falcon. He has it just before Chewie enters, at least.
When the scene begins, Chewie and Leia are most definitely armed. @1:30, Lando is still unarmed as he runs out onto the platform. Ten seconds later, Chewie turns to fire at the Stormtroopers. Six seconds after that, Lando has Chewie's blaster. The exchange happened when we see the Stormtrooper runs up to the door and fires on them, because in the next shot, it is Lando who is returning fire.
I noticed both Chewie and Lando seem to have stormtrooper blasters when they fire from the Falcon. Chewie certainly does not use his bowcaster. Lando did not have a weapon before that. So where did he get it? Did Han store some stormtrooper blasters in the Falcon before they arrived? Watching this clip I was surprised that Lando was really unarmed until they got to the Falcon. It is shown nowhere how he suddenly uses a blaster when they reach the Falcon. This is something I never noticed before... I guess I don't pay as much attention to details as some of you do.
Well, let's not forget that sometimes a unplanned cut to change the pace or feel of a scene can mix things up without anyone noticing the error.
Did you not read my post and watch the video? That's not an error at all. A perceived error, but not an actual one. And that even assumes that the exchange was ever filmed.
Yes I did, like I said. It was something I had not noticed before but I still don't understand where the problem is. When they make their way to the Falcon both Chewie and Leia use stormtrooper blasters while Lando is unarmed. Though we don't see it directly it seems Chewie hands Lando his blaster as soon as they reach the Falcon, because Chewie had to get the ship ready. So there were two blasters, one of them changed hands off-screen. This happens all the time in movies. The exchange would have taken only a fraction of a second, so we can assume it happens when the camera is on the stormtroopers. Not everything has to be shown directly. We can imagine what went on, and to me it seems very logical. Why would Chewie keep his blaster when he remained on board anyway? I don't see a mistake in this scene anywhere. As to why he didn't take three blasters from the stormtroopers in the first place, I have no idea. Maybe he thought two were enough and he was busy making that announcement and trying to open the door etc. It's not what I would have done, I would taken one blaster for everyone, but Lando chooses not to for some reason. I don't consider that a "mistake" (film-making wise) either. Maybe Lando just wasn't thinking straight or may even never have fired a weapon before in his life, who knows?
