Why did Obi Wan attacked first on Dooku with his lightsaber?

?The force is used for knowledge and defense, never attack?

He gave up to anger for a moment mesa thinks...

Dooku attacked him first, using Force lightning.

Wait now. Dooku shot lightning at him to get him to back down. Both Anakin and Obi-Wan were the aggressors in this fight. Consequently, they both lost. Yoda didn't really win either, as Dooku got away. Aggressors always loose in some form or another in SW duels.

Everyone loses in all SW duels.... from a certain point of view ;)

Both Anakin and Obi-Wan were the aggressors in this fight.

No, Anakin was the instigator. If it was up to Obi-Wan, he would wait for Dooku to make the first move. This shows Anakin's propensity to the dark side.

Well, let's blame it on Palpatine. It's his fault for starting all this war stuff :p

I would say Count Dooku standing up there watching the executions kind of STARTED the fight......

Obi-Wan & Anakin just continued it a little further.

    Why?

"If we capture (or stop?) Dooku we can end this war now."

    Ending a war brings....................

    Drum roll please..............................

    Peace.

That's right in line with "We are PROTECTORS OF THE PEACE."

Dooku did just try to kill him and just arranged for lots of jedi to die and just fried his apprentice. Cut him some slack.

I think the whole scenario is supposed to be problematic. And it's a great contrast to the opening battle of ESB.

The whole battle of Geonosis is a surprise attack on a rebel base.

    Sound familiar?

This is part of the arrogance more and more common among Jedi, as Yoda mentions earlier in the film.

Sidious wants the Jedi to make the first move. And they fall right into his trap.

There's always some big, well thought out reason for everything in the SW films, isn't there?

Why did Jake Lloyd have a whiny tone to his voice?
Not because he was a child, hadn't hit puberty or was directed to do this... NO, it was to show a parallel between the innocence of Anakin Skywalker and the man-child that is Luke Skywalker.

    BORING!

The quetion that should be asked is why did Obi-Wan get so gung-ho when he was supposed to apprehend Jango?
He runs through the door with a lit lightsaber at Jango, freaks Jango's "kid" out... wouldn't you start shooting at him?

They both knew the next time they'd see each other there would be a big fight. Obi-Wan wasn't kidding himself. After that tense dialogue in Jango's apartment and then seeing Jango in full armor, he knew what was up.

If some some SW fans are so smart, then when should I expect to see the following headline....

    "SW Geek Cures Cancer!"

    or

    "SW Geek Cures AIDS!"

By the way, these amazing breakthroughs shall come about due to in depth discussion and pondering on SW related issues....

Second, the point wasn't to start a fight, Jedi should be above that.
Obi-Wan was to apprehend Jango... this would be the equivalent of a cop coming at you with a Katana, when you are putting groceries in your SUV and scaring your kid, when he should approach you and make the arrest.
    I'm glad Jedi aren't cops.

Sarcasm is a way of breathing, it seems....

Yes, Punisher, most scenes in most films are very well thought out. And Obi-Wan knew that he would need to use force(and Force ;) ) to bring in Jango for questioning. Let´s not forget that Obi-Wan had seen that armor on Coruscant....

    EDIT: spelling

Are you telling me that the Eopie fart scene was pondered over and over in the intervening years between Jedi and TPM?
What about the beautiful dialogue of Jar Jar Binks?
Years of creative pain and suffering to produce that!

Jango was wearing his armor? So what?
It was his job to be a bounty hunter.. for all we know, he may wear it all the time in order to remain comfortable wearing it.
He didn't have a weapon drawn, he was just loading containers onto a ship, and that makes it okay for Obi-Wan to run at him with a ignited lightsaber?!

I wonder how many of you that think that Obi-Wan was right in running in with a lit saber think that Han Solo was justified in firing first?
    Huh?

He wasn't! George said he wasn't and that's good enough for me!

What's the big deal? During the Obi-Wan/Vader duel in ANH, Obi-Wan attacked first.

Vader was standing there with a lit lightsaber... Obi-Wan didn't attack first, he didn't even have his saber out!

Luke attacked first in both films, so really, he was just a hot-head too! Anakin and him deserved to lose limbs!

Punisher, there's some good one liners in there.......

    >>>>If some some SW fans are so smart, then when should I expect to see the following headline....

    "SW Geek Cures Cancer!"

    .....Good one. :D

But really, aren't those glass doors Obi-Wan is running out of to catch Jango?

He's seen a bounty hunter in a very similar outfit a few days earlir kill a suspect in Senator Amadala's attempted murder.

Just like a cop closing in on a suspected criminal who's wanted for murder, having a weapon drawn is wise, not overly aggressive.

Drawing a weapon & USING it without cause are 2 different things.

Why didn't he wait and ignite his saber when Jango drew his guns?
I could see if he had the unlit saber in his hand and Jango attacked, but he had his saber ready to go. Jango was just looking out for Boba, you heartless *******!

    7 *'s.

    Humm...........

    "Is there an 'S'?"

"We have 2 'S's up there."

    "Is there an 'H'?"

    "One 'H', spin the wheel."

"I'd like to buy a vowel. Is there an 'A'?"

So, Mr. Punisher, when's your high school graduation? :D

"Stay on target, stay on target."......

    Reread the post.

Jango is CLEARLY a murderer. Obi-Wan saw him fly away after the toxic dart was fired.

ANY 'peace officer' is going to approach a murderer with a weapon drawn, you ******* *****. ;)

Nope! That's not the right word! Sorry! Think South Park....

You should ask when is my Cable show debuting? ;)

How would Obi-Wan have been able to know that it was Jango at that distance?
That's another thing that's messed up in AOTC... did the Jedi develop super vision?

Obi-Wan didn't necessarily have a weapon drawn, that would work if he had his saber in hand but not activated, but he had a lit saber in his hand before Jango even had a weapon drawn.
Obi-Wan provoked the fight... Jango could have gotten away if he would have just tried to keep Obi-Wan at bay by talking or distrating him, allowing Boba blast Obi-Wan!

Then again, that would have been boring and we couldn't have seen any special effects or action as soon!
