When Padme is acting as the hand-maiden, why did she still go by Padme. That's a dead giveaway. Surely people knew the queen's first name.

That's a good point. If she was elected, the people would have to know her name; unless they just said, "I vote for the cute, young girl with the dark hair." I suppose it's possible the general public didn't know the names of her handmaidens or that Padme was a common enough name for people not to make that connection.

I think Amidala is in fact her second name

    Padme Amidala Naberrie

As a queen she's Amidala, in person Padme (i don't know for sure though)

Well, I guess the database does answer it...but I still think that it is stupid of her to go by that name. Just as stupid as it was for Luke to keep the last name of Skywalker and grow up in the same place where Vader/Anakin's mom lived and died.

I'm guessing the Security methods weren't that great on Naboo or They over looked that part of the security. OR Padme was a stuck bleep and said something like I'm totally not changing my name, like who has the name Padme anyways like anyone will notice.

How so? Vader didn't know he had children, so he wasn't actively searching for them. He likely hated Tatooine and the painful memories it represented, so he was never going back there. The Lars family is neither particularly politically or socially active, so they are hardly what one would call well known - and the name Lars isn't meaningful to anyone anyway. Similarly, in a galaxy of billions, it's highly unlikely there isn't another Skywalker family name out there. (I personally don't think Vader initially thought Luke Skywalker was his son until he put it all together. Certainly, the name took him aback, but I'm sure he was in denial or uncertainty until he realized - name + Force strong + appearance = OMGOSH I'VE BEEN MISSING OUT ON FATHER'S DAY GIFTS!!!!11one) Finally, Luke wasn't maturely force sensitive until much later and any Jedi tendencies that showed up before then, Owen ruthlessly squashed or avoided.

By placing Luke with Owen and Beru, Obi Wan gave Luke a good home to grow up in with people who cared about it. He provided a stable background with an obscure enough location and family to keep him fairly well-guarded until it was time for him to become more universally known. In fact, I'm wondering if Ben wanted him to keep the name Skywalker so when he naturally moved from the authoritative restraints of Owen Lars and was free to explore his Jedi abilities (under Ben..Yoda...whomever's tutelage). That way, he would eventually grab Vader's attention and face his father, as was destined. (Since that seemed to be the plan all along from later exchanges betwen Luke and Ben's ghost.)

Besides...Luke had no hand in keeping his name. :) That was totally the work of the Lars (and likely Ben). Kid was probably very young, toddler age or younger, when he came to live with the Lars. The only way he could be a Skywalker is if Owen and Beru told him he was one.

I never liked how Amidala was her last name. I mean do we call Elizabeth II. Queen Windsor (since that is technically her last name).

Queen Padme should have sufficed. Senator is a different since we don't have Senator John, we have Senator Kerry. The only problem is the switch between Padme and Sabe.
