OK, this may sound silly but I noticed it.

When Obi Wan is about to leave Kamino and Taun We escorts him back to the window door that leads to the platform on which his ship is sitting in the rain, and she tells him 'tell your masters if they want more troops we will need more time', etc,...

When he turns to leave to walk back to his ship, she stands there looking at him for a moment and rubs the right side of her neck with her right hand like her neck hurt or something.

Was this a slightly "innuendo" type of thing GL threw in to show that Taun We liked him a lil bit or found him a little attractive or did her neck just hurt?! lol.

Maybe that's one of Rena Owen's quirks or mannerisms. Animators like to do that kind of thing with animated/CGI characters; make the characters kind of look like the actors who provide the voice, or give them the actors' mannerisms. For instance, Boss Nass in TPM looks a bit like Brian Blessed, and Belle in "Beauty and the Beast" was given some of Paige O'Hara's mannerisms, like how she keeps pushing a stray lock of hair off her forehead.

I think that she was just scratching an itch. Its the little things like this which makes the CG characters a bit more convincing....

    Mace Windy,
new year, same level of windiness!

    I love "the neck rub"!

It always makes me think she's hot for Obi-Wan. :D

As she rubs her neck, she's thinking: "Oh my . . what a hunk!"

I always got the sense she was checking a tumour.

I'm not kidding, thats what I always think, I always got the sense that the kaminio were dying. There world reminds me of a hospital ward.

interesting idea RS, but i tend to agree with Macy, that little touches like that make the character look more realistic. they even said so in the dvd commentary

It really wouldn't suprise me if the ILM people working on her put this in as a little joke, Taun We having a crush on the (you have to admit) very well-mannered and polite Obi-Wan :D

Shelley and Mace Windy, good points! That is true, I shoulda remembered that from watching all those behind the scenes specials they show on SW! I thought maybe they were trying to show that aliens get tight necks too! (massage anyone?)

Otis, too funny! It was kinda like she coulda been thinking, "hmmmm, not bad, for a human...I wonder if....oh never mind!...he looks like he could get this knot out my neck tho....oh behave!" lol.

Rebel scumb...deep, maybe we'll find out in the next one if the kaminos will be a dying world. that is very observant of you, that could be a hint, like the beginning signs?!

I can hear GL now, "remember when taun we rubs her neck in ep.II? that was a the beginning of her tumor and their sickness as a species." wow.

Because Jango punched her, as she went out the door, for bring a Jedi to his aparment. Or she remembered the promise she made to Jango, that he could tie her neck in a knot if she brought a Jedi to him.

Well I'm not refuting it, and I doubt the the tumour thing is true, its just what Ifeel when I watch the movie, it reminds me of when my aunt was dying of cancer, there's just something so unnatural about cloning and what the kaminio are doing, its a very benevolent hidden sickness. Like a tumour growing in the galaxy, at first somewhere non vital and unnoticed but it quickly spreads an infects.

    LOL, RS.

I was gonna start a "Taun We/Obi-Wan Kenobi torrid love affair" thread, but I guess not..She seems to like him quite a bit all through the scene, honestly. "I would be happy to arrange that for you,", etc. Note how friendly she is compared to Lama Su. Lama's all business; Taun seems like a fairly nice person.

Who knows, maybe she has a thing for folks shorter than her.

Taun We's obviously pretty lonely. I mean, most of the males are these scrawny, place, bipedal-Llama looking guys. Then along comes muscular, colorful Obi-Wan, who doesn't look like a bipedal Llama.
What do you think she was rubbing her neck?

Seriously..good point about the hospital-ward look of it all. Notice how few Kaminoans we saw going around besides Taun We and Lama Su? I think like 3 or 4..

Funny you mention this. Rena Owen played a battered wife in the movie Once Were Warriors, and her husband was played by Temuera Morrison!

I would imagine she's rubbing her neck because she's had to literally look down at him to talk to him and it hurts her neck.

In Larry Niven's 'Ringworld' series of SF novels, he describes the process of "rishathra" - interspecies shagging, for want of a better description. It helps to facilitate trade, and is considered to be good manners.

Personally, though, I'm not convinced of any sexual undertones in this instance.

I think she's just giving her species' version of 'the finger', as in "Bye-bye Jedi-boy - and don't come come back, you swine".

    Or something like that. Probably.
