Why did the Kraken have a navel?

There was always something that bothered me about 'Clash of the Titans' and I couldn't figure it out until now. The Kraken has a navel. Now he's either a reptile or a fish. In either case he should not have a belly button. So what's going on?

Actually, that's his 2nd mouth. If you look in Mythology according to idiots, it talks all about it. See, when a fish swims by his bellybutton, it opens up and sucks em right in. It's a direct line to his stomach, so there's no need to chew. Also, it makes it much more convenient if a doctor ever needs to do surgery...He can just climb right into the hole and go to work.

 

Maybe his nipples are his weak spot. Give him a purple nurple and he's down for the count.

 

The Kraken is usuually portrayed as a giant squid, or else a huge sea serpent. Descriptions have been as vague as 'a many legged creature'.

In Greek mythology the navel is also a symbol for the 'center' or 'middle'.

Either the navel represents that it was a created creature born of some god's power, or else the model maker didn't think about it enough.

 

This is similar to one of my first JCC topics... "Why do males have nipples"!

 

Now someone should make a spinoff thread entitled, "Why do male Krakens have nipples?"

 

The Kraken had a navel because Ray Harryhausen designed it that way. As to what a mythological Kraken is sopposed to look like is anybody's guess.

 

Clearly it has been designed so that we feel a certain kinship with it. It would be hard to identify with it if it didn't have a navel or nipples.

Where else would he keep his excess lint?

Otherwise, it would be floating around in the oceans, creating all sorts of navigational hazards for the Greek sailing crews..
