What was the point? Was there any legitimate reason? Because their appearance in that episode titled "the deserter" in TCW was not necessary if you think about it. The relationship Jek and Shaeeah had with their mother and adopted clone father would have basically been the same if they were full aliens. We didn't even get to see their biological human father, so what was the point in making them part human? Instead of actually adding to the story, and being a benefit to canon, instead it hurts the canon by basically being a frak you to canon, and also creating even more questions....... such as..... 1. Are twilek/human hybrid's common in the GFFA? 2. Are twileks interbreeding with humans mean they are near-human (imo it's hard to see how humans could develop large "worms" on their heads, then again star wars is scifi)? 3. Are the offspring fertile or not? It would have been better for the writers to just stick to previous canon in this case. What do you think?
Twilek/human breeding existed well before The Clone Wars gave us those kids. One of Jabba's Dancers was a cross, circa Leeland Chee in Star Wars Insider 115, published in 2010. And from everything I've seen, George Lucas had nothing to do with it. Edit: Looking at the timing, they magazine & Episode did air at similar times. Chee would still be the first official source.
As far as I know, much of which is hearsay, it was only rendered canon after the fact via Leeland's twitter, the actual episode itself doesn't say either way. And, again, if I remember correctly, the Clone Wars episode guide Jason Fry wrote said they were adopted. Again, this is IIRC, so...
The Clone Wars Character guide was clear that they were half human/ half twilek, said so right in their bios. I will glance at the Episode guide again later tonight just to double check current info. The problem was never the possibility of them being crossbreeds, it was that the timeframe didn't work well to make them Cut's children. Thye could be another human's children for sure(though I still want to lobby for Jek to be Cut's true son )
Ah, there it is, I remembered there being some sort of problem with their being Cut's kids, cheers for jogging my memory.
At first 'The Deserter' starwars.com episode guide, va Filoni did address the issue. I can't really recall the details though. I think the writers did want them to be Cut's kids at first, then they realized that didn't work well(if at all) and since then Jason has been trying to fix it all up
And there was the discussion about which species Jedi Master Arca Jeth was? He was a mix of Sephi and Arkanian, I think. Apart from that, we also still have the Quermians (Yarael Poof's species) being "designed" by the Arkanians.
At least they've been keeping the hybrids in the EU to Human/near-human/human characteristics physiliogies. I'm no speciest but any thing other than the above would only work with massive genetic engineering and produce a freak, or something that is infertile or medically screwed up. I mean imagine Gavin and Asyr(Human and Bothan) had REALLY wanted a child but did not want to adopt? They would have had to go too the Arkanians and who knows what they would brew up? The sad thing is that this "child" would be an outcaste from both species societies, not able to fit in either. And it probably would not be able to breed with either species either without possible medical complications for the embryo/fetus.
In the X-Wing series, we have Nrin Vakil falling in love with first a Mon Calamari and then a Twi'lek. Wonder how an Quarren/Twi'lek hybrid would look like.
