This kind of bothers me, the ROTS Visual Dictionary reveals that jedi swordmaster Cin Drallig is the best duelist inside of the Jedi Temple when Anakin/Vader leads his attack on it, supposedly a very high level master of multiple lightsaber combat forms and an excellent warrior in general, why would Mace Windu bring lesser Jedi Masters along with him to arrest Supreme Chancellor Palpatine when he could have chose the temples resident swordmaster to accompany him and aid him with the arrest?

Makes sense to me, also if you have ever played the ROTS Video Game then you will notice that Cin Drallig was a very tough opponent for Vader to kill in the attack on the jedi temple, he put up one hell of a fight after watching Vader stab his padawan learner to death, just having the resident swordmaster along on the arrest of a known Sith Lord would make me feel better if i was leading the arrest, he would have lasted a lot longer than Agen Kolar,Saesee Tinn or even Kit Fisto i am sure as well, middled aged and experienced just like Mace Windu was and a master swordsman as opposed to just being a Council member that sits in a chair all day and never fights much, i say Windu dropped the ball with his choice of Jedi Masters, just put Shak Ti in charge of the Temple defenses along with the gatemaster Jurok that was mentioned in the novelization of ROTS.

We also know that Agen, Saesee, and Kit were three of the greatest swordsmen in the Order, so for all we know they were on par with Cin.

Kit Fisto was on par for sure because he lasted as long as he did but the other two were a pathetic joke, not even looking at Palpatine even after he jumped over his own desk with an ignited lightsaber to attack their group, they both are looking around at other things and get gutted by Palpatine for it, at least Cin Drallig put up one hell of a fight in the game and is a tough opponent, having a guy like that would be best.

Mace just brought a few Jedi as windowdressing. He didn't really believe that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, because he doesn't fully trust or believe Anakin. Even if he thought Palpatine was really a Sith Lord, he didn't think a fight would occur. He certainly didn't think that Palpatine would take the offensive and kill three of them in the blink of an eye.

It was fast but that's just a testament to Palpatine's incredible power, not their weakness.

Oh, I'm not saying that's what it looks like just what it's supposed to be. Vader's more powerful than Obi-Wan yet the movie doesn't make it look like it.

Besides, even if Cin Drallig was supposed to be the "master to the masters", he probably wouldn't even leave the Temple frequently, let alone be sent to do combat with a Sith Lord. That's like sending your best Drill Instructor off to the front lines: he could do a lot of good, but you're ultimately hurting all the noobs in training.

Like someone else said, you don't send your best man to do combat.

But disregarding the obvious storyline, it seems like the Jedi Council seems kinda stupid in sending the wrong Jedi for the wrong job. In my opinion, Mace should have went to battle grievous. Do one of those force pushes like he did in the cartoon against the droid army, Grievous would be dead in 2 seconds.

I always wished there would have been more scenes with Drallig in ROTS. Maybe Anakin and him going at it. But I know it wouldn't have added much to the storylines. I couldn't see him going to assist in arresting Palpatine, but I could see him like getting in between the younglings and Anakin, defending them from Anakin in the jedi temple.

Great question. It doesn't make any sense. I think it comes down to Mace being to over confident or maybe he's not the sharpest knife in the kitchen.

Well, Mace and the possee were already on their way to Palpatine in order to make him surrender his powers. So they were on a diplomatic mission. When Anakin told Mace that Palpatine was the Sith Lord, Mace knew he had to react at once. So he did. Most likely, he thought that he alone would be a match for anyone, and that having three more Masters there wouldn't hurt things. He didn't overestimate himself, nor underestimate Palpatine - it's just that he probably never saw the possee fight. Cause they sure couldn't!!:D

In hindsight he should have done a lot of things. He should have radioed Yoda. He should have brought more Jedi - most notably Yoda. But he didn't think he had time to do all that!

My only comment on the scene is that I wish it had been 10 seconds longer and in those 10 seconds we see all the Jedi and Palpatine actually fighting vs. two going down without even swinging their blades... also while Mace and Kit just watch. 10-seconds... just 10 seconds of 4-on-1 fighting.

My guess is that Mace didn't want to get too many jedi involved in case it was a false alarm, they needed a few close knit jedi who could keep the secret to save the face of the Jedi Order. Also Cin Drallig may have been a master swordsman, but Mace needed masters of the force, not just a duelist. He's also not on the council, which would make the arrest seem more like an ambushed assault. Mace believed that maybe if there was enough jedi masters with him the chancellor/sith lord would alteast be taken captive which was the original plan, he didn't plan on his posse being slaughtered within a minute and him being alone to tank it out with Palpy.

i always thought that the reason for Agen and Saesee not doing anything was becouse when palpatine jumps up and spins he is useing some kind of force move that momentarily paralyzes them.this would make a hell of a lot of scents and it would explane why in AOTC anakin left his arm out for dooku to cut off, becouse dooku did the same force move.[face_coffee]

This is what I was =D=, earlier. Best summation that I've seen for Mace's choice of Posse members.

In the novel he did. Which seems to explain why the entire Kashyyyk sequence is left out of the novel.

This is what the RotS novel says, and frankly, I'm getting a little tired of this relatively short period of time having some of the greatest Jedi that ever lived. It's not very believable. As far as I can figure, Count Dooku, Yoda and Obiwan Kenobi should be considered in the best of the best of Jedi that ever lived. So just out of simple common sense, I have to discount Stover's words. And I have a feeling that he was forced to say something like that because in his novel, Yoda specifically goes to Kashyyyk to make the Jedi look weak on Coruscant and draw out Darth Sidious.

I really disagree with this. Mace just underestimated the abilities of Palpatine or, rather, overestimated the abilites of himself and the posse. It's fairly clear that Mace believes Anakin, because he walks into the Chancellor's Office, draws his lightsaber, ignites it, and tells Palpatine he under arrest. Mace knew his was in for a fight. Even in the RotS novel, it's abundently clear that Mace knows Palpatine is Sidious. Anakin actually looks like an emotional wreck, and Mace comments to himself that this is his defining momment as a Jedi.

Palpatine certainly blew them away, but Mace could have also put together a better crew.

I believe Shaak Ti and Cin Dralling were needed to stay behind to protect the Temple and younglings from attack. Even Shaak Ti wanted Anakin to remain behind to help protect the Jedi in case of attack.

You do see such a scene, though it goes by quickly, you see Anakin engaging Cin Drallig and two other Jedi when Obiwan flips through the holograms.

My take on the Cin Drallig not being a member of the posse, is that Mace believed he had a good enough team as was. Mace probably believed that he and four guys off the street could have arrested Palpatine. He left to the Chosen One behind, so it's not hard to figure that he would leave the Sword Master behind. An attack on the Temple was an issue. Plus, Cin Drallig's two apprentices were in the Temple. He may have volunteered to watch over the Temple to stay with his apprentices.

I like the film period having many of the greatest Jedi who ever lived. Of course, I chalk it up to the Force setting things into place so that the Jedi are in a place where the Chosen One can do his duty.

I hear you SX3 and agree but shouldn't the Force have helped Mace with this a little more? He is the one who felt the darkside surrounded Palpatine. I wish someone could have been in GL's ear, asking him what the hell was he thinking when he put some of the these scenes together.

People were ALREADY in GL's ear, and IMO thats WHY the Posse-scene and the-turn are less than stellar. But I digress...
