Is it there a way to counter a force choke?

Why didnt Obi-wan try to stop Anakin from choking Padme?

He did, and he was successful.

Yep. He did stop Anakin from doing it. He just didn't use the Force to "block" it.

Distract the force choker, which he did.

If Obi-Wan had not been there... do you think Anakin would have choked her until dead, or let go, and then gone to her? ... or let her lay there?

I think he was too in shock at what he was seeing to effectively help Padme, besides crying out to Anakin to stop it.

He didn't care about Padme at all, ever.

His being there in the fist place is the reason she was force choked.

He stowed away on her ship, an illegal act, so he couild kill her husband. Anakin was right. The total victim here is Padme, whom Anakin half blamed when she was completely innocent and Obi-wan used her. He used her, and ultimately killed her, by "killing" Anakin. aThey were force bonded, and Padme could feel what Anakin felt.
It's Anakin she couldn't live without.

Obi-Wan was always polite to Padme, but deep down inside, she really annoyed him. Ever since she gave him that smart*** comeback on Naboo - "Then we must not fail to get the Viceroy, everything depends on it." - Obi-Wan has just wanted to back hand her. That's why he waited a few seconds to watch Anakin choke her. Then when he was satisfied, he told Anakin enough.

I don't know, ask Lucas. Sorry for being a prick. He could've just force pushed Anakin right off the edge right then and their.

    You choose the answer:

    a) OB1 was too busy thinking of how he was going to "open a can of whoop-a_s" on Anakin.

    b) Ob1 was too busy thinking of how Anakin was going to "open a can of whoop-a_s" on him.

    c) The fact that Padme could still speak insured OB1 that Padme could still breathe, just not effectively, therefore he had time to persuade Anakin to stop.

    d) Quite frankly, OB1 never liked Padme.

    e) OB1 hoped Padme would pass-out so he could give her mouth-to-mouth.

    f) a, c, and e.

    g) a, and b.

    h) a, and e.

    i) c, and h.

    j) d.

    Are we there yet?????

To counter a Force choke, one would merely have to use a Force shove. However, Obi-wan was not going to endanger the children, should Anakin choose to break her neck. Instead, he ordered him to let her go.

Yeah and Anakin could snap his wife's neck or take her with him as he's soaring through the air. Not smart. And Jedi do not use Sith Lightning.

Did it ever occur to you my fellow geeks that the reason Obi-wan didn't physically stop Anakin from choking Padme is because he was confident in his own Jedi powers that he would be able to save her from permanent damage?

REMEMBER...as Obi-wan and Anakin circle each other, Obi-wan bends down and places his hand on Padme's face. Now though it's been widely thought that Obi-wan was just checking for a pulse...many have speculated (myself included) that Obi-wan was indeed performing a "Force Heal" similar to what he did with Luke. Remember, Obi-wan placed his hand on Padme's CHEEK and not on her throat...a rather unorthadox position to search for a pulse.

This also explains why Obi-wan was so surprised when the medical droid informed him that Padme was still dying--DESPITE BEING PHYSICALLY HEALTHY!!

The reason Obi-wan didn't stop Anakin from Force Choking Padme was because he knew that he would be able to save her...(at least physically.) regardless of Anakin's abilities.

I'm not sure I understand the question.
He DID try to stop Anakin:

"Let her go, Anakin! LET. HER. GO!"

    And it worked, too.
He did stop Anakin from choking Padme.

I agree with fallenknight88. thats the best answer presented on the board.

you see sidious do the same thing for anakin when he arrives. and it does explain obis suprise on the moon. he saved her, yet she still dies. she and anakin were too tightly connected.

and to those who say obi wan did not like padmea, you are so very wrong. they had become great friends. good enough that anakin was jelous of obi and padmae. she had great respect for obi wan and he had come to accept her as a fair and just polatition. it's too bvad lucas cut the scene that anakin refers too after obi has left to find grivious.
