Well, Palpatine did go through many complicate things in order to secure his own army, but I don't see why he didn't just used the droidarmy at his disposal. I have some theories myself, but they all seem strange so I thought perhaps you could give me the reason!

"Clones can think creatively, you'll find that they are immensely superior to droids." That, and the fact that an entire droid army could be sabotaged by a couple of shots at the mechanism in the center of the control ship.

I also think that because the clones are human, the Jedi would have at least subconsciously expected them to have loyalties, in spite of Taun We's statements that they don't. Therefore, it was easier to take the Jedi by surprise with Order 66 than it would have been if droids had been used.

Sure, but remember that the clones were recruited because the Jedi couldn't defeat the Droid Armies of the Separatists. So having the clones as a surprise doesn't make sense. He could defeat the Jedi with his droids and then create a clone army to rule the galaxy.

Because then Dooku would have been holding all the cards. It's HIS droid army as far as the public is concerned; he controls Grievous and the Sep leadership and the resulting hundreds of thousands of Sep systems. With no army in his pocket, how is Palpatine going to keep Dooku from simply landing on Coruscant, killing him personally, and declaring victory?

Furthermore, the clone army was necessary to create the war-the war was a means to an end, that end being the evolution of Palpatine's Supreme Chancellorship into being the Emperor. The war was used to pass all manner of legislation giving Palpatine more and more power over virtually every part of life in the Republic.

Palpatine could have taken control over the droid armies himself instead of Dooku. And as I said earlier, he could just use his massive droid armies to overrun Coruscant and the Republic without getting the postition as Chancellor. And The Emperor didn't care about keeping the senate together, as he declared it over once the war was ended.

Hmm... I just realised he couldn't just create a clone army like that after winning the war, as the Kaminoans wouldn't do it for him if they knew it were for a bad cause. Does make sense, huh?

This..."Clones can think creatively, you'll find that they are immensely superior to droids." It's called quality over quantity. Although I'm sure battle droids were a threat to the average soldier, Palpatine nevertheless wanted to ensure his side wins and that he would still have a competent army to carry out order 66 when the time was right.

I was always under the impression that the use of clones, and the Clone Wars in general, were a ruse Palpatine used in order to manipulate the Senate into declaring him Emperor, thus giving his dictatorship a veneer of legitimacy as well as getting most of the public behind him. If he simply built the droids, attacked the Jedi, and declared himself Emperor as some have proposed, then he would have faced a great deal of opposition from the get-go among the populace and other planets. His ploy in the films, however, allowed him to slowly chip away at people's rights so that they would not rebel against the Empire until it became too oppressive to endure (as is what happened in the OT). The clones were used for political reasons as much as (or perhaps even more so) than they were used for military reasons, in my opinion.

I think the Jedi are just as capable at killing clones as they are at killing droids. The Jedi developed a sense of trust and even friendship with the clones. The Jedi would never suspect that the Clones were meant to kill them so their guards were down. Also, a militaristic takeover with the droids would make him appear to be evil, which did not suit his plans. People wouldn't support him then.

9 year old Anakin basically defeated the entire Droid Army on Naboo by destroying the control ship. The clones didn't have that problem.

The war was staged to destroy the Jedi order...Sidious needed two armies to stage a war...one comprised of droids, and the other comprised of clones grown and created unbeknownst to the Jedi

Some of you are giving good ideas while others just repeat things I already know. The question is not why he created the army but why he didn't used it to overtake the galaxy. But I have gotten some good answers by now.

He did use it to conquer the galaxy, he just did it in a way more subtle and more effective than simple force.

If he just tried to attack the entire galaxy, it would have made things much easier on his enemies. They would have known what they needed to do to win. They would have been able to identify their enemy and gather their strength against him, resisting him at every turn (like the Rebellion, only much stronger). Palpatine may have still won, but the victory would have been much more costly and far less complete.

Controlling both sides of the war left his enemies blind to who their real opponent was.

CLIFFS: Why didn't Palpatine just attack his enemies openly? Because his plan was better.

The Republic didn't have an established army. And the Jedi's ranks were too thin to confront the Separatists' droid army. The Republic could have created a droid army themselves, but with Obi-Wan's discovery of the clones on Kamino, why bother?

Don't forget that Palpatine led both sides of the conflict.
