The first two prequels got VHS releases and I still have them so i can compare the original VHS versions to the new additions in the movie for DVD.

So why wasnt Revenge of the Sith not released for VHS? Too dark for kids or something?

I would have loved to see the different changes between the VHS tape of Revenge of the Sith and then the new additions for the DVD

I was wondering the same thing, only I was thinking more along the lines of Beta.

Who really uses their VHS player anymore?

The PT looks better on DVD. I have the VHS of I and II and the DVD's and the DVD's are more convienent and just have a clearer image.

    But VHS is kinda ghetto.

    Who uses VHS anymore??

DVD players are so cheap now you don't VHS releases anymore because harly anyone will have them anymore. It's not profitable.

Well, I still use VHS all the time - mainly to record things though (I'm not one for this newfangled TiVo or what have you). But I imagine that, out of the already small fraction of the population that still uses VHS (like me), only a tiny subset of them would actually buy a movie on VHS instead of DVD. I think the price of DVD players has fallen very quickly since TPM, and at this point I can't imagine there's any real money to be made with a VHS release.

Because VHS' were not in production by the time ROTS was put on the market for us to take home and watch again and again. I would have liked it just because I have the first two on VHS also and it would complete my collection and many of us are like that.

I bet that was Lucas's plan the whole time, all the way back to making the original Star Wars. [face_thinking]

I haven't watched VHS in years, but I can quite easily understand why people would want a VHS tape of ROTS. If you are a collector, and you already own the other 5 movies in the format, it's only logical that you'd want your collection completed. Because ROTS is the only SW movie to not be released on VHS, it means that no-ones Star Wars media collection will ever be truly complete, unless they live in a country that got a VHS release.

RotS was released on VHS in the UK. So if you just want a copy for your collection, but not to watch, I'm sure you could find a copy somewhere online...

I still watch TPM on VHS..The only way to see it in it's original form..without the superfluous scenes added to the DVD.

Step 1 : Acquire a split dvd/vhs machine of some sort, or borrow one

    Step 2: Tape the dvd

Step 3: Blank VHS case + crayons

    There you go!

I guess I just figured it was the fact that vhs was pretty much a dead technology by the DVD release...

My vhs player isn't even plugged in! Hasn't been for 2 years!

By the time ROTS was released on DVD, I don't think any stores were even OFFERING vhs tapes at all anymore...if I remember correctly.

Luckilly I had ALL the rest on DVD.

I remember it was announced that ROTS wouldn't be released on VHS at all, someitme in 2005 I think it was. Those 3SA days are still a little foggy at times

Indeed. They did the standard Fox-sized box and a big 'rental-size' box. I've got both of em :) You can find them floating around on Ebay, but they get a little pricey, considering they're VHS.

The downside of course is that there isn't a US 'cardboard-sleeve' version. :(

Nope, atleast not in North America. I was working at a video store by the time ROTS came out to DVD. I remember about a month before that we sold all our previously rental VHS's for 99 cents. We knew no one would be renting them ever again. VHS is just kinda primitive. It's like asking why ROTS soundtrack wasn't released on A-track.

    VHS is dead.

I was actually looking at blu-ray yesterday at Walmart. It's absolutely amazing.

I do have a DVD/VHS player I got it for like 300 in 2003. It's a Samsung and it's perfect, but I very rarely use the VHS part unless I want to watch like, Riverdance, from 1995. I ain't buying it twice. The quality of VHS is shockingly bad now that I have HDTV and will get a 42" flat screen for Christmas. I think my Samsung will be retired to the guest room at that point.

VHS is a thing of the past. Why didn't they sell the PT soundtracks on 78RPM records? heehee

Pardon me for asking, but what does the movie being too dark for kids have to do with a VHS release?

If Lucasfilm had released ROTS on VHS, they probably would have lost money on these. The format is obsolete, and has been for quite some time. I myself have not owned a VHS player since 1996.

But, it is harder to put a VHS on the Internet. DVD disc? Not so much.

I have about 10 films that I still watch on Vhs from time to time. Other than that and the occassional time that I want to record something, I never use my vcr anymore.
