Why do bicycle helmets look so ridiculous?

I lived on my bike as a kid. This was back in the 1980s when nobody wore a helmet because...you're just riding a damned bicycle! No one I grew up with thought this activity required protective head gear. And none of us ever got hurt except for an occasional scrape.

Take this woman, for example. She may be an intelligent, professional lady who is respected by her colleagues. But in this bicycle helmet, she is a laughingstock.

This athletic fellow is in great shape for his age thanks to cycling. Too bad he looks like he just escaped from a mental institution because of the mercilessly idiotic helmet he's wearing.

Please note the proper way to wear a bicycle helmet. You should look like you just had a lobotomy in a third world hospital.

Making fun of someone's asinine bicycle helmet can produce a negative response.


Worst of all, a whole generation having been brought up in the modern Cult of Safety probably doesn't realize how dumb they look in those damn fool helmets.

Why do you hate Mormons?

 

lol, today I was driving my sister home from youth group, and the song on the radio had this line about thinking about eternity, and I looked to the side of the road and lo and behold there were two Mormons, wearing bicycle helmets, short sleeved white dress shirts, backpacks and all, walking their bikes into the sunset.

This is why I don't ride a bicycle. I hate those ridiculous-looking helmets, but I also hate severe skull and brain injuries.

 

They look ridiculous because they're good for you and nothing good for you looks cool.
