Why Do CD-Rs Smell So Bad?

At least in my experience. I use Maxwell ones. And if its only those, why should only one brand smell bad?

I don't think they smell bad until after you use them. At least they work better than the three seashells.

I've also got a heightened sense of smell, so I just smell more things than most people do.

You don't have to sniff them. You can smell the CDs when you open the package. And yes, they smell bad.

You don't even have to sniff them. The stench is overwhelming as soon as you open it.

I sniffed my CD-Rs... I smelt nothing! Perhaps I'll just go to Best Buy and smell CD-Rs there. That won't look weird at all.

 

DVD-Rs don't smell either.

I won't touch why you smell them, I'd probably violate the TOS here if I did.

That sais, it's the dye you are smelling. A normal CD has a metal wafer that is presseed in the plastic surrounding it. In a CD-R they use a dye as the core instead of metal. There are like 3 different chemicals it can be. Odds are that is what you are smelling.

I remember getting a spindle of fuji cdr that smelled once. And no I was not sniffing them

 

I never smelled mine, either.

Why do they have different colors underneath sometimes?

It's not like someone looks at the information part.

Well, I guess I did if I knew they had different colors.

 

My ear is different colours.

 

I bought a 50 pack the other day and they stunk.
