    Actually, I know its supposed to be the corresponding cig for the first letter of your S.O.'s name - I was 15 years old once, I used to do it, too. But the other day I saw a 27 year old doing it (and I know his age because he was a friend of mine). I busted his chops big time about it, and he responds "What? It's cool."

    Honestly, should 27 year olds be doing lame **** like that?

    C'mon Robbie, you still do it, don't ye?

    An' don't lie, either. Snow will tell me if yer lyin'.

    EDIT: I agree. Smoking is teh suck. I quit over 3 years ago, cold turkey, after smoking for 10 years. It was hard, but I did it. And I'll never look back.

    I enjoy smoking. Unfortunately, my conscience is telling me to stop.

    EDIT : Never heard of this upside down trend.

    Cigarettes= DEATH STICKS!!

    I have been trying to quit for a while and I'm down to about 4 or 5 a day.
    Smoking is NOT cool. It is the equivalent of slow, deliberate suicide and I strongly encourage everyone to never ever take up the habit or to drop it if possible.

    I don't know about the S.O. thing you mentioned, but I've seen lots of people who flip a cig when they open the pack (always the same one, I think it's one of the corner ones) and reserve that cig for last. I'm not sure what the deal with it is in terms of its meaning. When people have these little habits, especially the ones done in a social context, they tend to ritualize the activity. The rest of us just look on these elaborate little affairs and think, "What are these fruits doing?"

    I know people who do it for luck and save it for the last smoke. Who knows. I have about a dozen close friends and every one of them smokes, whereas I do not. I've concluded that they're just crazy.

    That's not Coke, that's fiberglass. ;)

    I used to do that "turn the first cig over" thing back in High School but I haven't done it since.

    It's called the "Lucky" Cigarette. It's just a tradition that a lot of smokers seem to have. It's less common now. And the "lucky" is usually reserved to be the last smoked from the pack.

    The "lucky" was started during the world wars.

    If you made it to your lucky at the end of the day, you were a lucky man.

    Though, I don't bother doing that with my smokes.
