Why do porn movies try to have a story?

I recently watched the censored version of Pirates with Jesse Jane...and wow was it bad. Makes Dolph Lundgren seems worthy of an Oscar.

None of these peolple are any good at acting, but they're good at sex, so why try to wrap a story around the sex?

It's not like anybody actually watches the story parts, so lets just skip it all together, okay?

Dolph Lundgren did deserve an Oscar for his portrayal of Captain Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.

I remember jenna jameson was a guest on the Howard Stern show years ago and he asked her about this movie. She said something to the effect that she learned a lesson about a story with porn.

 

Speaking of pointless, what exactly is a "censored porn" movie? Isn't that like a non-violent action movie? Or a musical done as a silent film?

 

I was going more for a point about evolution and vestigial remnants from earlier forms. A chicken being a bird, however flightless it may be, has (fairly useless) wings. Porn Movies being a form of filmed entertainment likewise has a vestigial element leftover from its predecessors, a story.

 

I think it's a holdover from when decency laws required some kind of "artistic merit" to circumvent obscene material classification. You had to have a crappy story to avoid being banned.

 

Why did it have to be crappy? Why not a good story?

I guess because they figured no one actually cared about the story... and now it seems to have become a hallmark of the genre.

Perhaps this is just an American ideal? There are many non-American films that have explicit sex in them if not flat out porn and it's no big deal, complete with plot and story.

 

the point THERE is that the sex/pr0n isn't the whole point of the movie, the story is and the sex/pr0n is just an aside/part of the story. slight difference there, one would think.
