The rest of their uniform is desert-camo style, but the flak vests are forest-green camo. Does anyone know why?

Most likely for identification purposes. When you're out on patrol, and something goes down, you're going to want to stand out a bit, to avaoid friendly fire.

Because, for the longest time, we were prepared to fight in a woodland area, hence the BDU camo schemed armor.

The supply of DCU or ACU patternd OTVs are much lower, ESPECILY the ACU pattern OTV.

It doesnt really matter which we have though, they all have the same kevlar inserts and SAPI plates, and therefore the same protective qualties.

Edit: heres a pic of me wearing my woodland green OTV.

Better question: Why did the French wear bright blue uniforms in WWI?

Even with the green, it still fits in. In my eyes anyway. I had a hard time seeing soldiers in the desert with the green vests.

If it aint broke, dont charge the U.S more money to fix it.

Yeah, it doesnt matter what color the OTV is, the armor it holds is all the same.

That's a good question, when my dad gets home I'll ask him. But when he was in the first Desert Storm I think the flak vests were desert-camo. I think in this day and age it all has to do with what supplies we do have and giving out what we do have. But I'll double check.

Maybe that's why the war cost so much... they're making the uniforms out of money

As I allready answerd...... the OTV was produced more in the woodland scheme before the war.

This isnt your daddys flak vest PK, the OTV is much more protective (and capable of stopping AK rounds)

And once again, heres a pic of a green OTV with the DCU

But doesn't the green make them stand out more, making them easier for insurgents to shoot at?

black would be a kickass complement to the tan camo.

    Another thread killed by paddy.

And I wasn't even wearing any camo, much less carrying a rifle.

Damn, the army could learn a thing or two from my thread killing techniques.

Maybe it's the fact that GI's are doing battle in urban settings now, rather than in the open desert of the Persian Gulf War, that the colors they wear don't matter as much.

That is exactly the point darkcide.

When your convoy stops to fix a flat tire, matching camo or not youre visable. Id rather have a green OTVw/inserts (Kevlar and SAPI) then nothing at all.

Fact is these things, as I understand it, take time to make. Unless you're fighting an infintryVS.infintry battle camo doesnt really matter that much.
