Rogue One Why does Cassian Andor wear a winter coat on Jedha?

Seems like a warm climate. I realize most of the characters were fully-clothed but a winter coat with thick insulation seemed a bit much. Thoughts?

 

It's a winter desert.

 

It's maybe winter so perhaps it gets to about 13 degrees, which you know ain't room temperature and might be a bit chilly? (totally guess work)

 

It's supposed to be covered in perma-frost. Several characters are wearing coats, not just Cassian.

 

It's a good subversion of the "sandy desert = Hot" assumption.

 

It's a cold desert like Gobi here on earth.

 

because it was cold! what makes you think it was warm?

 

Jedha is much like Mars but bit warmer- there is no snow because it is quite arid as well(and snow is water) It is not as cold as Hoth but not warm climate for sure.

Deserts / arid areas can get very cold. ~15% humidity and even a bit of wind is brrrr. Also, the holy city is a plateau.

 

Because they wanted him to look like Han Solo.

I mean, the Hoth coat doesnt look like the one you need for Jehda even if it's cold there.

Except that his jacket is clearly navy blue - not confusing brown/black/blue like Solo's.

I think that it was the best coat he had- it's not like Rebel alliance have different clothing for every possible place- space is cold so having warm clothing is really needed if temperature gets low for some reason or you have to operate on world with sub-zero temp. It was day on Jedha but nights may be very cold- so maybe he decided to be ready for that and took the warm coat just in case.

But certainly there was that ESB-nostalgia aspect as well. Still having cold desert world is nice for a change.

I guess the rebels raided an Imperial clothing store and took whatever is there and they happen to take one line of coats that's basically the same.

 

Because it's freakin cool looking.
