I remember reading somewhere something about Harrison Ford strongly disliking Star Wars. I'm too young to remember anything about the OT, in fact I wasn't even born yet when ROTJ came out, :p but I was just wondering why.

I don't recall him ever saying anything like that. I think he chose to stay away from all of the hoopla. He didn't want to be Han Solo forever. He wanted to do other things, and not be defined by the role.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this. He has had much more of a career than any other actor of the OT. I think Ewan has the potential to follow in is footsteps, as far as no being defined by the role of Obi-Wan, and being succesful in other films.
    Same with Natalie actually.

I don't think he hates Star Wars either. I agree that he probably tried to stay away from getting caught up in it. He has by far had the best career out of all the OT actors, so there's something to be said for keeping a low profile.

He has stated many times that he hated the character of Han Solo. He never said he disliked Star Wars.

I thought he said that playin the part of Han Solo wouldn't let him grow as an actor. Or somthin like that.

Yes, he wanted Han killed off in ESB during that carbonite scene, but they convinced him to comeback for ROJ.

I know he told GL that he could write that crap but he sure as hell couldn't say it. He didn't like the script or his character. I still don't think he really hated Star Wars. If I was him, I'd be thankful I was in something as special as Star Wars.

The only actors I know of that hate Star Wars are Alec Guiness and the guy who played Ric Olie.

Natalie doesn't seem too thrilled to be in the movies.

In Natalie's case, I think it's just that she doesn't have such a romanticized vision of Star Wars like we all do, it's just another movie for her.

Captain Panaka doesn't like Star Wars either, but who really cares what they all think.

I never heard that about Harrison Ford or the guy who plays Ric Olie, I don't think Natalie hates Star Wars, she said it was very fun.

I don't think he hates it, but he has been awfully snappish about it; when asked why he didn't attend the ANH: SE premiere in 1997 he snarled, "I'm done with 'Star Wars'!"

While I can understand wanting to get away from a role which may stereotype you, I would think he's long past that. He's one of the biggest stars in the world, has his pick of roles, makes $20 mil per movie. If all he has to deal with is an occasional SW reference...well, we should all have such "problems."

Also, it's interesting that he has no problems being thought of as Indiana Jones. Supposedly he thinks Han is shallow. What's so deep about Indy?

I don't have much sympathy for actors who complain about being remembered for only one role. It could be a lot worse. They could not be remembered at all.

I saw him on "Inside the Actor's Studio" a couple of weeks ago. When the host talked about SW, the audience erupted in cheers. Mr. Ford said that the movies were a lot of fun to make. IMO, he should appreciate it. SW opened a lot of doors for him. Mark Hamill also seems to steer clear of SW things now--he didn't even want to go to the re-release premier in '97.

I think it would be a blast to be in one of those films.

Well, I watched a documetary on Sir Alec on the History Channel. Apparently, when kids would ask for his autograph as Obi-Wan, hefreak out and tell them to go away. It isn't that he hated Star Wars, but rather that he had spent a career making great movies, and now they were forgotten behind the shroud of Star Wars.

As for Hamill... he obviously still likes being known as Luke. He usedto hate it, but it seems like he finally accepted it. If he HATED it, he wouldn't have taken the role in Jay and Silent Bob.

As for Harrison, I am not so enlightened.

I always wondered about Alec Guiness.

I mean why would such an esteemed actor take on an extremely risky role in a SciFi/Fantasy movie?

    Money.

Why do you think Peter Cushing and Chrisotpher Lee did it? Artistic Interest?

Ian McSidious, perhaps... Palpatine is kinda Sheaksperian...

I thought that Natalie's problem was centered around all of the bluescreens and action (apparently not her favorite).
*shrugs* To each his (or her) own, I guess...

Of course she loves doing SW. She's making tons of cash. She's getting VERY well known. Same thing with Hayden.

Critics and Actors may dish Star Wars, but it does improve your status.

I remember seeing an old interview with Guiness where he was asked why do a sci-fi movie. He responded that he was almost sure he wouldn't do it, but after he read the script, he changed his mind. Then later on in his life, he called the script and dialogue "drivel". Talk about a complete 180.
