When you stop to think about it, Ben really couldn't have been tired- he was dead! It's just an annoying little thing I noticed in RotJ- he sits down for no reason! He couldn't really get tired in ghostly form, so why?

I think he sat down to make it easier on himself to tell Luke about Anakin.

Hey aren't Ghosts able to go through things? Doesn't ben walk over plants and stuff and then sit down. I mean if he were a "True" ghost wouldn't he of gone right through the log? But i agree with the above that he sat down to make it easier

Maybe he did it out of habit, or he chose to have his manifestation do that because it's something humans do, and as such, could have helped his message by calming Luke. I dunno.

After all, why even show up in Jedi robes? Anakin can manifest himself in Jedi robes when he wasn't wearing them when he died. Maybe the guardians of the afterlife hand them out. We deserve answers!!! :)

It made the conversation more personal.

Also, our good friend Yoda does too.

Why does Obi-wan sit down in ghost form?
Just more proof that Ben wasn't more power than Vader could possibly imagine ;)

    He wasn't a ghost.

He was part of the Force, which can interact with the physical world, as we've seen countless times in the films.

I think it makes it look like it is a father talking to his son.

I agree with Jedi_Master201. I never really considered what Obi-Wan appeared as to be a true "ghost."

agree with Jedi Master201 i do.

Yoda talks of the Force in ESB as it making life grows ... its surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together. feel it in the rocks and trees you can ... so if the Force is part of the living making things grow and Obi-Wan is part of the Force. wouldnt it make sense that he has to walk towards Luke and is able to sit with him?

I don't know, he looked pretty ghostly to me, I mean being dead and transparent and all.

How do you know what ghosts look like? :p ;)

Seriously, I think he was simply a "manifestation" of Obi-Wan, through the energy field known as the Force. He wasn't the spirit of Obi-Wan, so to speak.

He was Obi-Wan's consciousness translated through the Force.

That trip from the Netherworld tired him out! It's tough being a spirit!

I don't think George thought that mattered and Obi-Wan is not a ghost he is one with the Force and we do not know the full info on this one with the Force, it still has mysteries like why Qui-Gon did not disappear.

I don't think we can relate our perception of ghost here with spirits in GFFA but the reason why it was shot like that was becasue Alec Guiness was ill during the filming and was easier for him to sit down.
