I know this is a silly question just wondered why when Obi was struck by Vader, Obi dissapeared and his clothes didnt disapear while Yoda's clothes did?

    Anyone get it?

Easy: Yoda died lying down. Obi was standing up.

No, I honestly don't know but I have often wondered the same thing.

    A theory:

To reappear as Force Ghosts, one must be at peace. In this process, the physical body vanishes. Knowing that Luke can defeat the Emperor, he was fully at peace, so he vanish and as you can see, it includes his clothes. But Obi-Wan, when he vanishes, it doesn't includes his clothes. That is because he was trying to be at peace, he was in the middle proess of meditating into peace.

    There is no contradiction.

In both cases, their clothes vanished with their bodies.

All Obi-Wan left behind was his outer robe...just as Yoda left behind his blanket.

Just be grateful that Yoda and Obi-Wan's ghosts aren't naked at the end of ROTJ. ;)

Don't forget that Lucas isn't done tinkering with them yet. You never know what the future holds. :D

I can just imagine that. Ghosts don't really need clothes, do they? ;)

Maybe Yoda's blanket was really an outer robe. Tada! No contradiction now. :p

    Watch it again
Only Obi-wan's cap stayed, the rest went with him.

However when he is a ghost he has his cape again. Does they have a store in the Jedi Ghost world?

Maybe crossing over into the force relm is like being reborn. Once the Jedi die they shed their threads and travel buck-naked to the spitit world, arriving in an image that wont make their living friends go blind when they see them. This would explain Haydens ghost not wearing his usual leather getup. It was burned to a crisp by the lava?, or was it discarded by the Emperor after he undressed an uncouncious Annie to put his armor on. Either way, he couldnt travel thruogh the mortal portal with that evil suit on. But his leather was gone. How was he to make it to the other side without cloths? Then he remembers, the original robes Obiwan wanted him to have when he became a full knight. He tried them on once wich allowed him to wear them in ROTJ. Yes. Thats what happen. Unfortunately not knowing the full trick left QuiGon to wonder around naked but invisable with only his voice to be heard.

It's because they didn't have time to make a naked Yoda puppet.

I was going to call it a continuity error until whoever stated how it was only the OUTER ROBES that Obi left behind. It all makes sense now. BRILLIANT!!! Brownie points to whoever that was.

Maybe Yoda's robes IS his skin. Never thought of that, now did you?

Vader's sabre goes through Obi Wan's robe (did you see that alternate take where it gets cut in half? Maybe they should have used that). This means that for at least a second, the robe wasn't there either. Perhaps Obi Wan decided to go over to the other side of the force naked.

If you wanted to try to wring consistency out of this you could get into something like, only living matter can be transmuted into Force energy, therefore he has to leave behind his clothes as well as any non-living matter of his body such as epidermal growth (hair, claws, outer layer of skin), the minieral content of his bones, any unabsorbed water, and any undigested food or waste in his gastro-intestinal tract.

Fortunately, Star Wars is fantasy, not sci-fi, so we don't have to go there.

Oh, and Obi's ghost somehow reacquired an outer robe even though Obi left it behind. Maybe the robe joined the Force when the Death Star when kablooie. More likely, Obi bought a new robe from the same afterlife Jedi 'R' Us store Anakin got his Endor party robes. :D
