Just wondering if anyone had any theories on why Count Dooku did not kill Yoda during the sabre-battle scene. It seems that when Dooku distracted Yoda by toppling the pillar over Obi-1 and Anakin, Yoda was very vulnerable to an attack. If distance was the key (too far away to use a light-sabre), then why didn't Dooku just use force-lightning?

    Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks.

Yoda was too powerful. And he already tried force lightning and Yoda deflected it and obsorbed it. And if he did then who is that character in ESB? Yoda was the Master.

Dooku didn't want to kill Yoda, nor did Yoda (or Obi-Wan) want to kill Dooku. Dooku was a political idealist. Killing one of the most powerful Jedi wouldn't be a good way to help out his cause.

Too risky. His mission was to start the war and get the plans for the initial death star to Sidious. If he tried attacking Yoda he risked ending up dead or, probably worse, failing his tasks and being punished by Sidious

The question assumes that Dooku could have killed Yoda - meaning that Dooku was in an advantageous position to actually make a fatal strike.

As I see it, there at the end, Yoda had the upper hand and was holding Dooku at bay. Dooku's toppling of the crane or tower or whatever it was, was a dishonorable "cheap-shot" to distract Yoda long enough to escape.

even though dooku is evil, he is a noble man, who would want to beat yoda in a normal lightsabre fight, not by some cheap shot

Yoda is the Master, and far more skilful with the Force than Dooku. His only weakness is his whole pansy-assed "knowledge and defence" thing.

    What a wuss...

Uh, because Yoda was too good for Dooku to beat, so he had to escape instead?

I think he got a little freaked out by Yoda's incessent and furious attack on him during the duel. He know victory no matter how distracted Yoda was, was out of the question. He ripped off the tower aimed at the wounded Jedi and high tailed it with his primery objective to start war complete. :)---- Plus as someone previously stated to deliver the extra bonus of the Death Star plans to his master. He just wanted to go out of there since he couldn't beat Yoda. I'm sure if he had attacked Yoda I guess he would have found a way to defend himself.

I think it's safe to assume that even if Dooku did want to kill Yoda, he must have figured Yoda would sense him approaching.

And I'll have to disagree with those who said Dooku was too noble to take out Yoda. Dooku is a noble-esk kind of guy, but Dooku was going to kill a defenseless, injured Obi-Wan had Anakin not saved the day. And when Anakin and Obi-Wan were in a position to do nothing at all, he threatened their lives with the pillar. It seems that Dooku kind of abandoned any noble ways in the duel. Had he figured taking out Yoda would not be a risk-worthy situation, I'm sure he would have.

Yoda didn't stop the pillar as a reflex action. Dooku is already running away before Yoda considers trying to stop the pillar. He's not so stupid that he'd stop fighting to try 'n' save them knowing he and obi/ani would be killed.

i disagree ST-TPM-ASF-TNE, dooku had defeated obi wan in lightsabre combat, he was finishing him, however if he had gone for yoda it would have been such a cheap, unnoble thing to do. its like jabbing someone hard in the ribs when they're yawning :p

The way I see it is- Dooku was extremely outmatched, and he knew this. He desperately needed to get away before he was killed or captured. So once he distracted Yoda, instead of risking further combat which he would surely lose, he took the safest way out and ran like the wind.

I think Yoda could have just moved the Lightsaber slightly and intercepted Dooku's Force Lightning if he tried that again, just the same way Obi-Wan did after dooku attacked him with it, and yoda could have done this to block another lightsaber attack as well, the reason that dooku doesnt try anything else is because he obviously knows this and that Yoda being the greatest Jedi Master in the order would be able to react in time to prevent it.

Maybe Plo Koon or Mace Windu would have fallen victim but not yoda, thats why he is the Master, hes attuned to the Force and can use it to defend against almost anything without much trouble.

Because it wasn't in sidious's plan. He didn't want to lose the greatest jedi master of all time. I have a feeling that palapatine has something in mind for yoda that makes the jedi look bad to the public and yoda to run to exile.

Dookuu would kill yoda if he had the chance. If he swung at yoda and even if yoda didn't already sense it coming, he would be able to block it relatively easy. The old man ran away to change his diapers.

I think it is possible that when someone is as absorbed in the force as Yoda was at the moment he was keeping the pillar up, it may act as a force shield for Yoda. If he can catch force lightening with such ease then imagine how powerful he is when he is fully immersed in the force.

MY big beef with the scene was how come Yoda didn't use the pillar like a baseball bat to wack Dooku's ship and prevent his escape??

That's what I thought he was gonna do, and then instead - like the green little booger he is - he let Dooku skip off...

Knowledge and Defense, never for attack. Attack equals smashing a pillar into a ship. Thank you.
