Why don't the boards allow links from NPR (National Public Radio)? It just took the longest time for a post to actually go through, when I remembered NPR links prevent any post from going through. Why does this rule exist? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPR
Yes. People ought to listen to NPR. That does not require us to rewire Star Wars forums to accommodate links to their programming because Ghost woke up with his latest bi-annual random thought about stuff he's interested in that ought to become a Comms topic.
It is certainly not an issue. I was merely stating that we were waiting for this. You definitely provide content. It just tends to usually be of the "I have been studying ancient Coptic writings and was wondering if we could reconfigure the forums to have text in ancient Coptic be a default option because I am personally very passionate about this" variety. Not saying we don't love it. We just wait for you to fall asleep and move on from it. In this instance, while listening to NPR.
Trump nominates a Nazi to lead Office of Special Counsel. In other breaking news, water is wet That was an NPR link. What are you talking about?
You must be new here. This thread was brought to you by the author of "Did the font change?" and "Does Fun and Games really need to be separate from Community?". He keeps us on our toes.
It appears that if you embed the link within text, like how you just did, it works fine. But if you just straight up put the URL in a post it won't work. You can't even preview the message. Neat!
This was the link I tried to post, which is about how the Trump administration was stopping funding for these flu vaccines. It didn’t allow me to put it into a new post or edit it into an existing post, which was frustrating, I thought my internet was down, until I remembered the boards acted that way about npr links before too. I’m putting spaces so it actually allows me to post it, or else it’s stuck in a forever loading screen. https:// www. n p r . o r g /2025/05/28/nx-s1-5414642/trump-vaccine-bird-flu-mrna So I made this thread because I’m not sure why this has been an issue for years. I just wanted to know the reason why. And hopefully it’s fixed whenever we do move to new boards. I just don’t know why it happens, and I’m curious why the boards act up over NPR articles and no other websites.
Thank you for the explanation of what you are experiencing. As far as I can tell, this appears to be a technical issue and not some kind of forum rule or censorship setting like the profanity filter. When I put your link into my reply without the spaces and hit Preview, the page sits there thinking for a little while before giving up on trying to show me the preview pane. My developer console tells me the piece of JavaScript trying to send the post to the preview pane is failing. If I remove the link from my post or add the spaces back in, the preview pane pops up immediately. I have no idea why this only happens with those particular links, but the JavaScript error hints at it being outdated code that has issues with modern web browsers. This is code that will be replaced with the board upgrade.
