Why is Lando's background still a mystery?

After 22 years, all we know is that he has traces of a Corellian accent ( Star Wars Sourcebook ), that he once went shopping with his mother, and that he got into playing sabacc in his late teens ( The Lando Calrissian Adventures. )

Of course, Lando isn't as important to the Saga as, say, Luke or Han, but I think that for a beloved movie character, his background is still a little too shady for my tastes. It's obvious that nothing will be shown in the prequels, so why is Lucasfilm not having authors detail his early life and homeworld?

It is possible that they may bot feel this color barrier has been broken. Sure, you and I and most people here would read new Lando Calrissian novels, but us hardcore fan types are a probably a minority. It's the main stream that they have to cator to, and they may feel a character who happens to be black may not sell books. I hope I am wrong about this, and I know I for one would like to see more Lando books. Han Solo may be brash and daring, but Lando is suave and cooler than Mace Windu on Hoth.

A: I doubt it, Panaka and Windu's backgrounds have been explored, and :

B: The are other sources besides novels. Guide books, magazines, TOS, comics, RPG sourcebooks, young adult novels, any of these could do a feature on Lando.

I never thought about it before, but you're right. We don't really know much at all about Lando. We know a lot about other characters of similar stature, like Wedge.
All we really know about Lando is he used to play baseball with Darth Vader.

No, from a certain point of view.

Billy Dee Williams and James Earl Jones were both in a movie called "Bingo Long's Travelling All Stars and Motor Kings", which was about a barnstorming baseball team in like the '30s. BDW plays Bingo Long, the shownman/pitcher. JEJ, I believe plays the catcher. Richard Pryor is also in the movie.

    Two other noteworthy things...

    1) His dog was run over by a speeder when Lando was but a child (The Lando Trilogy)

    2) Jedi Master Mace Windu signed an autographed poster of himself which Lando hung on his Bespin apartment wall. (Tag and Bink are Dead)

    3) There was going to be a prose sequel to "Lady Luck" in Gamer that would explore a bit about Lando's homeplanet (I'm afraid I can't reveal where it was supposed to be, as I promised way back when it was being written to keep silent about it)...but something happened with it's publication. I'm not sure where it stands now.

Ah, you and your Fanboy Association association. ;)

To any authors who may read this, let it be known that the fans want to know more about Lando's homeworld and family.

"2) Jedi Master Mace Windu signed an autographed poster of himself which Lando hung on his Bespin apartment wall. (Tag and Bink are Dead)"

In the infinities universe of course, just to be precise.

"To My Man Lando - May the Force Be W/U. - MACE"

Great picture of an intense as hell Mace with flaming wreckage behind him. Funny stuff. It'd be quite funny to see a Tales story showing this historic meeting...though if set during the Clone Wars, Lando'd be what...9?

    :D

That's funny! Hey Mavrick, just for PM's sake...if you could tell me the planet...I can easily keep my big mouth shut. After all, you'd have to kill me if I tell, and I wouldn't want that. :)

But I do hope that Lando does turn out to be a clone; remnant of the Clone Wars.

I really can't...it's still possible it will eventually see publication.

I don't know, but I don't like it. I want more of him! :) He, along with Han and R2 are my *absolute* fav characters and I can't get enough of them. I know I have said this in the past, and I'll probably say it in the future, but I want a LCT by A.C. Crispin. :D

One other thing we know about Lando (sorta...): His mother is *nothing* like Drea Renthal. ;)

Well that settles it. He's a Vong.

Seriously though, this sounds like a job for A.C. Crispin, who did a fabulous job with the Han Solo trilogy. It should tie in with Lady's Luck, the Han Solo trilogy, and the Lando Adventures (one of my favs). IMHO she should pen more books that link Episode III - Revenge of the Wampas with Episode IV - ANH.
