Ok, I'm currently reading 'The Courtship of Princess Leia' for the first time and I absolutely love it so far and am reall enjoying it. I started last night and I'm up to chapter 9. But I'm confused at this:

"Luke whipped out his lightsaber and a brillant blue glow cut through the shadows."

What? I thought Luke's lightsaber was GREEN in ROTJ and after. I didn't read any of the other novels after ROTJ, only this so I might have missed something.

Did the author think Luke lost his green lightsaber at the end of ROTJ when he threw it away? Because he didn't. He retrived it after the Emperer was dead and its clearly on his belt when he returns to the Ewok party. The DK 'inside the worlds' book shows that when Luke threw his lightsaber away, it landed on the floor nearby and not down a shaft. So he would still have his green one after ROTJ.

Could anyone explain why Dave Wolverton wrote his lightsaber to be BLUE?

If its explained in another earlier book, please say but don't spoil me. Please don't give me any spoilers for the rest of this book either. I appreciate it. :)

I would have posted this in the offical COPL thread but I want to avoid spoilers.

    Does anyone know?

It was initially just an error, I think, but it's possible Luke was using a different lightsaber for some reason- he did have at least one spare he fashioned in the Marvel comics after ROTJ to confront Lumiya's lightwhip with, IIRC. I think they say somewhere that that saber was made with the kaiburr crystal from Splinter of the Mind's Eye as well, again, IIRC.

So, yeah, chalk it up to error or Luke is using a spare saber for some reason.

exchanged out the crystal for a change of scenery. Would suck to be constantly battling in shades of green for years on end.

Minor trip-ups aside, Courtship of Princess Leia has long been the best single volume read in the EU (IMHO). Appreciate it, it's a gem you rarely find.

Yea, it was a pretty good book. One thing I liked about it that I don't remember in ANY of the EU books is using the Force to cause things like exploding teeth (happened to Han), and busting blood vessels, like what happened to Luke near the end.

Which makes me wonder. How come you never read of any of these great Dark Jedi using something like "Force Heart Explode" or something like that, just to end a battle with a Jedi?

It is probably just an error. It happens in the books. In the Dark Nest Trilogy Denning wrote that Tenel Ka's right arm was cut off instead or her left (I heard they were going to fix that for future printings).

It's silly mistakes like that which make me wonder if anyone actually proof-read these things. One day I'm going to re-read the EU and go through it with a red pen and correct them myself. In one of the YJK books Anakin Solo was called Anakin Skywalker, in one of the NJO books Mon Calamari was called Coruscant and there have been numerous other scareless slip-ups which I find infuriating.

(just masking a few comments since the thread author specificly asked for no spoilers)

I liked COPL, but it's mixed- most of the plotline is good, but the characterizations for Han and Leia were way off and rather childish- probably the only SW novel that I ever felt such a thing (I generally do not notice minor characterization shifts). And the whole Iron Fist thing was handled a tad confusingly (thankfully the X-Wing books made sense of things, even if Han doesn't react to it still).
