I just dont get it as to why a fat Rebel pilot is still popular to this very day. Is it because of the actor being in other flicks like the Tim Burton Batman or Raiders of the Lost Ark? Or Porkin's bad predicament?

Probably because he's fat and they named him Porkins. Gotta love that Lucas sense of humor, or judging by his appearance these days it'd be more like irony.

It's the cult of the fat man. Everyone liked Seth from Superbad for some reason, too.

LOL Yes I'm sure you have hit the nail on the head.... name Porkins + fat man = a great memorable movie character...even if he is a relatively minor character. Gotta love it.

Plus, grabbing onto minor characters and creating an arbitrary fan base is a fun way to keep Star Wars alive and provide fresh (if not pointless) discussion topics.

Need proof? Two words. "Gonk Droid"

He was just that one fat guy. I was a fat guy so I know that I can fly an X-wing thanks to Porkins.

Yeah, I dunno. I'm kinda weirded out by how they took practically every Rebel pilot at Yavin and made in-universe legends out of them.

Yeah, I just did. [face_laugh] All the "Red" references were funnier.

But I think its generally because more and more people are overweight.

I'm gonna say that Porkins is not "damn popular". But yes, there has been an upsurge in his poularity in the last 3 years.

I always liked the guy, and ever since the DVD came out where you can freeze-frame to see the Cheetos wrapper snafu in the cockpit ... that has added to the hilarity his character brought us.

If you look really close, you can also see a few discarded pizza boxes underneath Porkins' seat.

You know when I saw the movie for the very first time in 1977 and Porkins was reporting in. I was like WTH!!!!
The rebels must really be desperate for pilots (I guess that is why Luke was upset with Han for not helping them out).
I was also imagining a EMPTY bucket of Colonel Sanders fried chicken under his seat. LOL

Cover me Porkins i'm going in.
