Okay, now, I realize that the Open Circle symbol (Red circle broken in two places filled with yellow) is supposed to be for the fleet commanded by Obi-Wan and Anakin, the EU's established that. However, either they did it without consent of ILM modelers making the movie, or there was a some other form of a lack of communication between continuity people and ILM, because in the movie it sure seems like that Open Circle is the symbol for the entire Grand Army. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe these can all be retconned, but I made a partial list of Open Circle appearances:

    1) All over the ships over Coruscant, that's a given.

    2) Painted on the sides of logistical droids unpacking cargo on Coruscant near where the senate shuttle landed.

    3) Visible on AT-APs at Kashyyyk.

    4) Painted onto AT-APs on Felucia.

    5) On the wings of an ARC-170 at Cato Nemoidia.

    6) As Gree says "It will be done, my lord" you can see it on a cargo container near his feet.

I can understand Cato Nemoidia, since Open Circle Fleet had recently been there, and possibly Coruscant logistical droids, but as for Kashyyyk and Felucia, and the fact that every AT-AP in the film had the Open Circle symbol on it, it doesn't make sense.

I don't know about Felucia, but it appears taht after the battle of Coruscant, most of the open circle fleet was stationed on Coruscant. Youda leaves Coruscant with an army. He doesn't have his own specific army, so he borrows some of the open circle.

i know this is star wars

but you cant just go and borrow part of an army . . .

I CAN however accept that that Open Circle fleet has a rapid response group that is on standby for orders into a hotspost as it appears or a critical area.

Perhaps the group we see is Yoda leading one of these elements, seeing as the wookies were supporters of the Galactic Republic i would have thought they would be high on the priority list . . .

It's the Open Circle Armada, actually-- IIRC there are at least five fleets that make up the armdada. It's a helluva lot of ships, in other words.

I believe the symbol on Kashyyyk is explained in that Yoda 'borrowed' a vessel and its attatched ground force to go to Kashyyyk. The same goes for Felucia; Stass Allie had recently dropped of reinforcements there that likely came from elements of the Open Circle Armada.
