So I know that Anakin had much to learn about the force and how to control his emotions and what not. Anakin was head strong and stubborn. But hear me out. When Obi Wan slayed Maul after the death of his master, the Council was convinced enough that Obi Wan was able to become a knight. (Council: I mean. a padawan killed a Sith Lord, lets rank him Jedi Knight!!!) So after Anakin defeated Dooku, why didn't the council rank Anakin master? After all, Dooku was stronger and more dangerous than Maul.
I completely agree, I believe it has to do with the fact that throughout the movies, the Jedi not only did not wish to train him, but feared his emotional driven attitude, and ultimately, his power. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it's because Anakin is the GOATsen One. Too much GOAT for Mace to take before he has it with *********** goats on these ************* planes.
Because he never formally reached the rank. Ahsoka quit before she could be made a Jedi Knight. Therefore, she never officially completed her training, which means she doesn't count towards Anakin's mastership.
Wasn't Obi-Wan a Master before Anakin was knighted? In the 2003 mini-series Obi-Wan is sitting on the council as they discuss knighting Anakin. He's not a Knight in the center, speaking to the council. He is a Master sitting on the Council, debating with other masters.
I think that's exactly it. The council was clearly not happy with the idea of Palpatine nominating members so they refused to grant Anakin the rank of master to show Palpatine that he couldn't control or dictate to them.
RotS novel: Mace Windu: “Skywalker is arguably the most powerful Jedi alive, and he is still getting stronger. But he is not stable. You know it. We all do. It is why he cannot be given Mastership. We must keep him off the Council, despite his extraordinary gifts."
But even in the movie: Anakin is 23 years old guys. Obi-Wan tells him that no one has achieved his status as quickly as he has in as little time and he would make master soon. He's just impatient. Even prodigies have to wait.
Because he hadn't completed his Trials, which seems to be the prerequisite to becoming a Master. His Trial, apparently, was controlling his emotions and thinking with a clear head. Well, we know how well that turned out.
Power is not the only qualifier, and not even the most important qualifier (as it should be) for being on the council. Qui Gon was a powerful Jedi, and should have been on the council, but, his own actions held him back. The answer to this question is multifaceted. First of all, the reality is that Palpatine has no jurisdiction to appoint Jedi to the Jedi Council. As Yoda says, they keep their own Council as to who gets appointed. Palpatine knows this. From Palpatine's POV: Palpatine makes the appointment because he knows that the Council doesn't trust him, and he knows that he can use the council's decision as a wedge between the Council and Anakin. If the Jedi outright reject Anakin's "appointment" then Palpatine knows he can twist it to whisper in Anakin's ear on how the Jedi are jealous of Anakin etc etc. If the Jedi allow him on the council, but don't treat Anakin as an equal, than again, Palpatine can whisper into Anakin's ear on how the council's decision is based on jealousy or fear or other things. It's all part of Palpatine's plan to drive that wedge between the Council and Anakin From the Jedi's POV: Anakin may be powerful, but he continuously has shown that he is too close to the Chancellor. As even Obi Wan has pointed out. We can see side conversations about doubts about him and the prophecy etc etc. They know he is unstable at times, even though they probably don't know of his most horrible acts like we do. In the end, it is evident that while he is powerful, and is overall a good person and Jedi, there are still questions about him that need answering, questions that prohibit why he isn't ready to be a Master. So why allow him on the council anyway? Cause the Jedi realize they are in a chess game with Palpatine (though they don't realize the stakes of it). They know they need Anakin and his close relationship with Palpatine to figure out what is going on with a Chancellor that is continuously overstepping the limits of Democracy. So the Council realizes that they at least need to keep Anakin happy to some point and allow Anakin's appointment to the council, but, they will not reward him fully and unjustifiably with the rank of Master. They make sure to make it understood that it is they that controls their hollowed traditions and not Palpatine. In the end it does play into Palpatines hands. Palpatine uses it as that wedge, Palpatine knows the Jedi will use Anakin to spy, and Palpatine in the end uses Anakin like the pawn that Palpatine uses all his apprentices and allies as.
I think it was a reaction to their perception that they were being dictated to by Palpatine. By ROTS, they are already suspicious of Palpatine. They accepted him on the council, I think, primarily with the hope of keeping a potential enemy closer. It worked, insofar as Anakin actually DID tell mace that Palps was Sidious. But they did not confer the rank of Master, because quite simply, Anakin had not earned it. He had only been a fully fledged Jedi knight for a few years. It seems like it would be a bit unreasonable to promote him over the heads of so many other Jedi after only a few years after being a Padawan.
*I* think Obi-Wan was knighted for essentially rejecting anger and drawing on the Force to kill (well, then anyway) Maul, not for the killing itself. So for me, it was mainly that Anakin had not demonstrated he was at master level yet (I reject Force strength as the only measure) AND that he was not appointed to the Council, but appointed as Palpy's representative.
Obi-wan had been sitting on the Council because the Council was deciding to make Anakin a Knight and Obi-wan had proven himself capable of being a Master. Anakin had not finished training a Padawan and was not ready to be a Master. He was going to be put on the Council because of Palpatine, but the Council still had say with regards to his rank. Anakin took umbrage because he had grown arrogant in the months since Ahsoka left and he fought in the Outer Rim Sieges. He had assumed that he should be a Master because Palpatine said he would be. More or less.
The council was debating making Anakin a Knight. Obi-Wan was clearly a Master and a Council member in that scene. I just don't think training a Padawan to Knighthood makes one a Master.
Fanon does say training a padawan to knighthood makes the master a Master. As far as I'm aware, that is not canon, however. More confusingly, a knight can be a "master" - a master to a padawan, but that is not the same as rank of Master, which is a step above knight. Just like the captain of a naval ship is the "Captain" of the ship, even if the rank is Commander or some such.
Anakin couldnt control his rage as well as Obi-wan. Heck, you saw right after he was told that he wasnt a Master yet- he got ticked off pretty quickly
And then in the couple of times he exhibits maturity, Obi-Wan is jumping on it and ready to give him everything. If he had just kept his mouth shut half the time, he probably would have been a master.
Yes and I can understand his frustration. He just went through the majority of The Clone Wars with success and probably felt like he was being slighted. Plus Mace Windu was never the kindest or that trusting of him
Because he's to immature and not balanced emotional. he walks to close to the dark side and isn't faithful enough to be called a master. he has the skill level, and he is mature, but not the level he needs for being a master.
The problem always was Anakin seeing it as something you won by fighting but that was never true, at least not on it's own or he would have been a Master. They KNOW he can fight, it's not being a headstrong jerk with a short fuse he needed to work on.
As Obi-Wan said in the novel, "How one be a Master when they have not mastered themselves?" Anakin had the experience, but did not exhibit the maturity or wisdom.
