Willow vs. LOTR

Guys, please excuse me if this thread has already been started. I did a search and didn't find anything that specifically discussed the two subjects.

So here we go:

Is there any question that GL was inspired by Tolkien in creating Willow? I mean, in one way or another you have personality types in Willow whioh you would easily find in LOTR.

I know a number of people actually liked Willow, which shocks me considering how horrid my friends and I thought the film was. And since there are fans of Willow reading through these threads, I want to be sure that I'm sensitive to their perspectives and their feelings.

My thinking is that if you liked Willow, you must have loved LOTR by a long shot. I mean, what does Willow have that LOTR doesn't have? Warwick Davis basically plays a hobbit on a mission. You can take it from there.

Anyone have any thoughts to share?
