    Wim is one of us
Wim is “the kid that presses all buttons in the elevator” (I am quoting Nicholas Cage here in describing Pedro Pascal Ehehe that’s a connaisseur quote)
Wim is annoying and naïf and “has to grow up” but without Wim there would be no adventure and I am sure we will find out there was something very wrong with the “peaceful planet” and therefore Wim is a hero and he had to push all these buttons and go on a quest!
From an adhd we point of view (hello there) the planet is neurotypical coded and Wim is neurodivergent coded and the others get pi$$ed at him but in the end he is going to be the one to save the day!
    I have spoken

Don’t understand why some don’t like him. He’s young, imaginative, naive, craves adventure, does some stupid things, and doesn’t want to go home and face serious punishment.

    In short, he’s a kid.

Because he is a kid that asks questions, does not conform and thinks with his own mind and doesn't want to be put in a pre-made box...and he influences the other kids to do the same and explore... that's why eheheh

Just think the button touching and then him being mad over it being 100% his fault are a bit much

All true, and good points. (I mean, his name is basically whim.)

A person's mileage may vary with Wim to the extent that the person is a parent. I am a parent, and something inside me groans when he does something. The duality of one's existence, I suppose.

I think he’s going to be recruited to Luke’s Jedi Academy by the end of this season

I would have preferred hitting the launch button to be an accident. Like he trips and grabs onto the panel and hits it.

That would completely take the personality and character development out of the scene. He's an insatiably curious kid who just has to get into things. Green button in an underground ship? He just had to do it! Reminds me of sneaking into an old abandoned wooden boat in my neighbor's backyard when I was a kid. And messing around with all sorts of stuff in there. I was trespassing, and it was dangerous as the thing was falling apart, but I was bored, it was fun, and it was the 80s and parents didn't hover. I thought it was also the low-key funniest moment in the show so far.

Also, the kid had no idea what the green button would do. It wasn't as if he thought "haha, I'll launch us all into space."
He's defensive because he knows it's his fault. This is one of the most common kid behaviors ever. What's too much about it? I'm genuinely a little baffled by the critique. Yeah, he does dumb, dangerous things. But what the heck would this show be if the kids don't do that?

Not the actor though, the character, they are annoyed by him and think he is not grasping the reality of the situation and is being reckless/not empathetic

Was rewatching ep one and when he wanders alone in ship all angry at the others I felt he was really young Ezra coded in a certain way…

Yeah, that’s just adult Star Wars fans wanting kids to act like responsible adults for some reason.

Yeah he’s very child like in being reckless and not grasping the gravity of the situation, how unbelievable.

Monarch on the other hand, there you had adults acting like that and that was a genuine problem.

I don’t think the other kids act like adults and I like them better. So this isn’t it chief and it’s not the kids acting either. He did excellent I have problems with how he is written

OK, but he’s written very believably. There are loads of kids like him. The kid who jumps into the puddle when his mother tells him not to jump in the puddle is the same kid who pushes the green button when he’s told not to.

Yep, part of Wim is me, I was part very annoying Wim and part level headed Fern, my hand always stopped 1cm short of really pushing that green button but I was the one to always insist in going forward and asking questions and finding out… I mean I am still a big part Wim, the thrive is there I only learned to mask it with a whole Fern on the outside (and some KB of course)…
I was never part Neel though! I love Neel but I was never an inch of Neel eheheh

and I know a lot of Wims, they just need a big adventure to “grow up” and they will be fine!
IMO I find the character well written and realistic…

As a parent, Wim is the most believable character on the show. My PTSD was quite effectively triggered.

By the way I am currently at an event where a story about Saint Nicholas is being told to kids with a music accompagnamento played by kids and there is a Wim who won’t stop playing the drum even if the teacher says not yet not yet

Yeah. Every time we come home, my kids immediately start pressing our neighbors doorbell and buzzer. And almost every night I have to yank them away and tell them don't press their buttons. Or like for some damn reason the 3 year is really intrigued by the stove knobs. He also loves pressing the dishwasher cycle.

Wim is a bit annoying. Kids are annoying. It works. And I'm sure if he was written like a logical patient adult, they'd be complaining that he wasn't kid-like.
