In case you didn't notice, Obi Wan hurls himself out of a window in AotC. :p

I've always found this to be too extreme for a Jedi Knight. What sort of example is he setting for his already risk-take-y Padawan?

And why isn't he all cut up and stuff? Did he use "Force-Not-Get-Cut-By-Glass"? :p

And what if that little droid thing wasn't strong enough to support Obi's weight? I can picture it now. He grabs onto the assasin droid, and it simply plummets down to the ground.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a fairly cool sight, but it just seems sort of unrealistic. It's very Batman Returns-esque.

    Well, are you surprised?

YODA (to Luke): You are reckless!
OBI-WAN: So was I, if you remember.

I guess the line "Go flying out of window and injure your hand you will, as Obi-Wan did" got cut. :p

Its been established that the droid had a very strong repulsorlift generator. I dunno how the glass didn't cut im, but hey, no one gets gut by glass in other movies either.

Glass doesn't always cut you, most of the time, but not always. Besides, it's the GFFA, I'm sure if wasn't really glass it was something very technical ;)

I think Obi-Wan going after the droid through the window is a great scene. And something only a Jedi could do. Perhaps it was reckless of him, but hey, he discovered a plot that changed the galaxy for ever.

I love love LOVE this scene (and indeed, the entire Coruscant chase). It's exhiliarating and vertiginuous, and really kicks the film into high gear. At this point in the movie, I was hooked. This is pure Star Wars: based entirely on a sense fun and adventure.

I don't think he was really thinking when he jumped. He was doing the whole Jedi "act on instinct" thing. Basically, the Force told him that it would work. Maybe he used some variation of Force push to keep the shards of glass away from him.

He probably used the Force to shove the little shards of glass away from him.

I wonder if could've trying holding the droid in place with a Force grip. But then, he has no guarantee that would've worked.

Theres alot of places in the saga where a little force push would have helped

Didn't the droid cut the glass with a laser?

If so could this have weakened it's integrity?

What about the people walking outside? Didn't Obi-Wan put them in danger by having glass fragments fall on them???

Once, someone jumped off the top of the Empire State Building in an attempt at suicide. The wind blew them back into the building (right through a window, not good but still better...) around the 40th floor.

I don't think those small shards of glass would've managed to reach the bottom of Coruscant, probably obliterated by a passing ship hull.

When I was a little kid I put my hand through a glass window, and i didn't get cut. Not a scratch. I guess I am a Jedi now! Woo-HOO! (Now if I could just figure out how to build that damned lightsaber.)

(And the rest of the Jedi powers, of course.)

I really liked that scene, it was really good. From Anakin's Jedi ka-bobs to Obi-Wan's window jump, it was pretty attention grabbing the first view.

However my concern isn't why he wasn't cut, but how he avoided the blinds without getting tangled.

    lol, that would've been good.

    *running footsteps*
    *CRASH!*

    "Master! Are you alright?!"
"Don't just stand there! Unhook me!"
    "You should've pulled the blinds up...hold on...there"
    "Right."

    *running footsteps*
    *WHUMP!*

    "That window's double-glazed, Master..."

Didn't you know this is like Jedi Training Chapter 303?

And I quote, "How to jump out of windows without blinds hitting you."

First, use the force you will.

Second, lift the blinds you will.

    Third, JUMP you will.

Any questions, see your Master you will.

It was nice to see Obi being a little "reckless" it helps tie into the comment in the OT, even if it was refering to his youth.

If the droid had beeter AI, it would've dodged about... 1 foot to either side.
Obi-Wan uses the Force-Pull-Out-'YIPE!'-Sign (ala Wile E. Coyote), plummets to his death, the droid let's out a BEEP BEEP, and the saga comes to a screeching halt :p

Obi-Wan is not the first person in the history of motion pictures to jump through a glass window without a single cut to show for it. Such an action was pretty standard in serial westerns.

Not sure why the glass didn't cut him but in the novel the little droid thing had an anti gravity thing to keep it moving.

His Jedi robes didn't suffer, either. You'd think with all those flailing pieces it'd snag on the broken glass.

I've gone through a window without getting cut too bad - perhaps there were some minor ones that we didn't see. And a lot of things can be explained away by "THE FORCE! THE FORCE PUSH!" ;)

Oh, and: In case you didn't notice, Obi Wan hurls himself out of a window in AotC.

    [face_laugh] What! NO! [/Dubious]

I love that scene. Its such a "hero" moment. It reminds me of Bespin, when Han sees Vader & whips out his blaster. Instantly. No hesitation. Just - BAM!
Same for Obi-Wan in AOTC. No hesitation. Just balls to the wall (or the window, in this case).

Of course, remember - Both heros had their sidekicks standing right next to them....

    "What took you so long?"

Obi-Wan knew he had backup. I wonder if he actually know how long it would take to fall to the face of Coruscant. Maybe thats like... common knowledge. If you're on the 2000th floor, it would take you "X" amount of time, that kind of thing.

Does anybody in New York know how long it would take to complete the fall from the Empire State building?

didn't he use the blinds to break the window?

that's what was said in the novel

and that droid was the closest thing they had to finding out who was trying to kiil padme, logic as well as instinct
