SEOUL, South Korea - A woman in South Korea who tried to pass the written exam for a driver's license with near-daily attempts since April 2005 has finally succeeded on her 950th time.

The aspiring driver spent more than 5 million won ($4,200) in application fees, but until now had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test.

Cha Sa-soon, 68, finally passed the written exam with a score of 60 on Wednesday, said Choi Young-chul, a police official at the drivers' license agency in Jeonju, 130 miles (210 kilometers) south of Seoul.

If she does get a license, may God have mercy on those driving next to her on the road... [face_praying]

An Asian, a woman, struggling with driving.

This is going to be the most tasteful thread ever.[face_whistling]

She's probably better than most New Jersey drivers.

It was just the written test. She may well pass the practical test first time.

It'll be interesting to see how she fared on the driving portion of the test.

Also, she's old. Old people are no good at everything.

When she inevitably leaves the turn signal on for the whole test, is that an automatic failure?

    Amazing.

I think this is begging for there to be a maximum number of tries law. It makes it pretty clear she got lucky this time around and its not that she really knows the answers.

Or maybe she should be required to pass the written test multiple times in a row - prove that it wasn't a fluke.

I can't help but feel she missed a trick by not failing over 1,000 times.

Think about it - she's at a party and looks to strike up conversation with the cool crowd [at the party]. She says, "Guess how many times I failed my driving theory test?" One of the cool crowd response - "I dunno, a thousand?"

What does she do then? Suddently 959 sounds meagre.

What Rogue said. I'm not going to attempt the math here, but I'm guessing the probabilities would show that eventually, even someone who can't read the language would be able to pass at 60%.

Which actually could have been the whole problem here.

It took me 3 times to pass the written test...and that's because I eventually got the answers from someone my parents knew. It also took me 3 times to pass the driving test. [face_whistling]

She may well be a fine driver in actual fact, so I guess it depends on how the practical portion of the exam went. Still, though, even with extreme test-taking anxiety and other problems, one would imagine that within 50 or so tries, you could simply memorize the correct answer to every possible question in the question bank. Presuming, of course, that they are shown which questions they got correct and which they got incorrect.

Wow. The written test is the easiest part. How many different combinations of right and wrong answers can there be? You'd think she'd remember what she'd gotten wrong before.

Look on the brightside, she wasn't that bad. I mean it didn't take her a 1000 times.

You can't negotiate turns. You can't signal properly. You can't maintain speed. You can't parallel park. Hell, you can't drive, honey. ****, I can't swim, I know I can't. So you know what I do? I stay my black ass out the pool!

At 950 times, it seems statistically likely that she would pass at least once by accident.
