Women and long fingernails.... WHY?!

Why on earth do women grow their fingernails long? And why would they ever wear those horrible fake nails?!

It makes me sick. I honestly don't know if I could handle a girl having her fingernails like that.

Do any other guys feel like this.. or am I he only one?

I can handle a tiny bit long... like a centimeter or around there... but that is the absolute most!

 

Because long fingernails are sexy. Except on Snoop Dog.

Weird. They just seem bizarre and ridiculous to me. Gross. It is probably just me though. My own weirdness.

 

They make figners seem longer and it makes openning CDs MUCH easier.

 

It's just one of those things that stems from years of tradition. Centuries ago, having long fingernails was a status symbol that reflected what class you were in. If a lady had long fingernails, it meant she was wealthy enough to not have to work for a living. It eventualy became something woman wanted to do as a beauty practice to try and draw attention from wealthy men.

To tell the truth, it's not that big a deal to me. It's not like I would turn down a girl based on the length of her fingernails but I still think they are sexy.

 

lol... ok, so you can open CD's with them... but you can't really do anything else with them though can you? Maybe scratch itches good.

Am I totally alone here? Are there any other guys that can't stand it when girls have long fingernails?

 

They also make typing and filing a breeze. Why in this day and age such a useful trait is restricted to females I don't know.

Long fingernails are now becoming a trend in the Rap world with men. As I aluded to before, Snoop Dog has long fingernails and others are starting to jump on the bandwagon.

 

Whenever I see long fingernails it's all I can do to not imagine them being ripped off in an unfortunate accident. Then my own fingers start feeling funny. It's best not to think about it at all.

I guess I like girls that are more natural... down to earth. And low maintenance.

I also think long nails are kind of gross because they are like dead cells. Like some people think long hair is gross because it is dead after a certain length. I guess it seems kind of Barbaric to me too.

What would women think if a guy had really long fingernails?

Edit: was just thinking about what Everton said... I never thought about a woman's fingernail being ripped off or anything... but when i was a kid I had one of my fingernails ripped off. It grew back... but it was very painful and ugly at the time. Maybe that has something to do with them grossing me out? I also can't stand it when my fingernails get too long. It drives me nuts.

May seem like a weird outlook, but I find hands the most fascinating part of the body... it's the hands that DO - they tell the story of a person's actions throughout their life. A girl I knew at college had the most beautiful hands I've seen - sculpted (and calloused) by years of playing violin - their every movement was a dance of almost unbelievable elegance and eloquence.

The sight of a claw-like hand, robbed of dexterity...eurgh! *shudders* In order to have such clumsy great talons, a person must have such a boring life - what could you do with things like that growing out of your fingers?

Long finger nails are something that belongs to a hoodrat. especially the nails that are like an inch long. They are trashy.

 

I like growing them long; it's time comsuming, but if I can just keep from chewing on them or breaking them...it's a hobby.

But I hate fake nails. your fingernails actually keep on growing, and since the fakes are on top of the fingernails, they move up...so if a person isn't constantly going to fix 'em, it looks bad, like a person who dyes their hair having the roots grow out.

I know of male watch fixers (I forgot the right name) who have to have their pinky nails long to do some work on watches.

 

I think they are okay for some women. But for me they were never practical. I grew up on a farm and after having a nail get caught and ripped off to the cuticle I said no more. I agree that they make filing a little easier but they didn't help with typing. But if you had them when you learned to type then it may not be a problem. Also my mother who has long finger nails is always complain about having to go thru so many hosiery when trying to put them on because a fingernail will get caught and rip the hosiery.


There are times such as when I get a splinter in my hand that having long nails would be helpful but like I said before basically just not practical for me. Not to mention I don't like the maintainence time that is required. You know daily checking to make sure the polish is not chipped then if it is having to repaint them. and thats just for real nails not including fake nails.

Short, painted fingernails are teh sexay.

 

In Kenpo fingernails are used as a weapon. I keep mine a medium length so I can scratch someone's eyes out if need be.

I keep my nails relatively short. My best friend gets manicures, but I don't get it. It's a waste of $40 or whatever ridiculous price it is now. She breaks them on everything and they get in the way all the time. And they look fake.

A while back there was this hilarious "commercial" on either SNL or Mad TV for "Corn Chip Nail Tips". All these trashy girls with Fritos for fingernails. Hilarious.

 

Well I have slightly long natural fingernails, they barely break and I do a lot with them, like play basketball and volleyball, I keep them nice and pretty, and yes they look nice, I don't like the fake nails, but maybe thats my gift, having natural pretty nails.

 

As long as they're not looooooong-long, they're ok. I myself have never had acrylics; just too much of an upkeep, and they will most likely break, and if they do, they look like crap until the next nail place trip. My mom used to have them a long time ago. Right now, mine are on the longer side, but they end up chipping on the sides, and then I end up peeling them off and filing them down. It's fun. hehe

 

Long nails are sort of creepy. Mine are a bit too long now, but they barely reach out over my fingers. I especially hate fake nails when women get them painted all funky. Ew.
