    Are the two species related?

Or is it just the name like pigs and guinea pigs?

Or are Ewoks electronic woks like ebooks are electronic books?

    Confused ...

You've seen RoTJ, right? Their not related, except by a plot twist. Lucas had planned to have the final battle fought on the Wookiee homeworld where the "savage" Wookiees would end up helping bring down the Empire. But when RoTJ rolled around, he'd already shown Chewie to be too sophisticated and felt that he wasn't merely just the exception for the race. So the Wookiees were shrunk and given shorter fur, becomeing the far less technologically evolved Ewoks.

They're not related. Ewoks will throw rocks at you and Wookies will rip your arms out of the sockets.

Actually, Wookie is also acceptable when you consider that it was the spelling first encountered in the novels in Dec. 1976 when Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker came out. The second e appears to have been added later and this spelling is far more commonly used.

I heard what I said in my initial post from Lucas himself on the documentary From Star Wars to Jedi.
